Paradise Seeds

Greetings Mr.Connery, great thread I've enjoyed it immensely.

Long ago around 2008-2009 I got some Magic Bud seeds from Paradise, that strain was fucking amazing! I've been waiting for it to reappear with no luck.

What strain currently available at Paradise would come closest to Magic Bud?
You seemed like the guy to ask, thanks for any help on this matter.
Hey mate, I think it's still available at Paradise Seeds: https://www.paradise-seeds.com/feminized-cannabis-seeds/magic-bud/

If you search around there appear to be a number of other seedbanks that also carry it: https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=magic+bud+paradise+seeds&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

I am pretty sure that one of the parents is Holland's Hope but I'm not sure what it was crossed with. I haven't grown this variety, but it is renowned for being easy and reliable to grow.

Now I am not saying that Wappa is the closest strain to Magic Bud, but it is also a sativa/indica hybrid that is easy to grow and very reliable in terms of effect and yield. It is a great strain that I recommend to everyone. It branches out a lot, so needs plenty of room to grow, but it rewards you with huge yields and a really nice, uppliftig smoke.

Looking at the Tangerine Sorbet compared to the Wappa above that my friend is growing, I might be recommending Tangerine Sorbet to everyone in the future. The plants are very uniform and very similar to our Wappa keeper clone which we have had for almost 10 years now. I won't know what it's like until it's finished flowering, but the plants are looking very promissing.

Mr Caveman, were you on Overgrow at all? Your name sounds familiar.

Nice garden!looks like you you enjoy growing..I grew most offering from Paradise seeds over the yrs,my favourite was the sensi star in regular form circa 1999,a short squat, broad leaf indica that was pest resistant and stunk up the neighborhood with her skunk spray nose,I also really liked the ice cream from around 15 yrs ago.

Well supposedly Hollands hope is just viking x afghan skunk i have heard people say its straight viking x skunk like top 44 victory or the sweet berlin clone viking being a old afghan heirloom for outdoor mostly from wernard bruining he could never remember what afghan it was tho so theres a lil backround info for you it was called viking due to its heavy indica stone being likened to being hit in the head with a axe supposedly lol

I guess it has been a long time since I last checked. Thanks for enlightening me. I'll be grabbing a pack or two of those.

I was on here back in those years but never on overgrow. Used to do Icmag but that place was a graveyard ghost town last time I checked.

Thanks again mate!

I first grew out Sensi Star in the early 2000s and the pheno you describe is the one I kept for many years. There were basically two phenos: a true indica type that was short, squat, fat-leafed and had a very strong lemon-skunk-fuel smell but also quit a high leaf-calyx ratio and was not the best yeilder – but it was super strong! The second pheno was more of a hybrid indica-sativa that grew large and had a sweeter, tropical flavour mixed in the lemon-skunk-fuel, with dense buds that was a big yielder.

I still have some regular seeds in my fridge from around 2005 I think. They are the last of the regular seeds before everything was feminised and the breeding obviously changed.

Thanks for the blast from the past!

Thanks for the info. It's all a bit confusing because some sources quote Victory/Top44 as being "Skunk x Viking" and Holland's Hoop (Hope) as Viking x Skunk. But as Viking was clone-only (as you said) they could only be Viking x Skunk, or Viking x Afghan/Skunk. I don't know enough to comment. Luc has always been notoriously secretive about his strains, but since adopting a lot of Cali genetics he has been more forethcoming with his strain lineages.

I can't recall if I ever grew it (which probably means I didn't), but I do remember the initial description of it where Luc described it as being "fun" and covered in trichs like "snow which makes you want to do fun things, like skiing" – LOL! I think it was also described as having a similar lemon flavour to the Sensi Star.

Jeeze, now I'm really taxing my memory :eyesmoke:

Cheers mate. I know I've seen you around somewhere. I thought you might even have been over at Planet Ganja at some point, but PG wasn't everyone's cup of tea so I won't hold it against you for not being there – haha!

Another quick update on the Glowstarz/930C test seeds. #3 is the yield winner by a long margin at this stage. I have taken clones of all five plants, but I am only going to keep #1, #3 and #4. After the smoke test, I may cull a couple of those, too.

Here you see #3 head and shoulders above the rest. #4 is poking is head up at the back left. The others have already been partially trimmed.
IMG_8377.jpeg

Close-ups of #3 – still 2-3 weeks until harvest
IMG_8393.jpeg

IMG_8366.jpeg

Here is #4. It's like a smaller version of #3 but smells a little more potent (if you can "smell" potency - LOL!)
IMG_8373.jpeg

And here are the stems. Nice and thick. You can see the nutrient salt build-up on the surface of the coco, but the run-to-waste systems does its job of regularly flushing the coco so the plants are all a really nice healthy shade of green and some blue (due to the cooler weather). I can adjust the flow of each hose by raising and lowering it to act against gravity. If you raise one hose it flows less than the others.

Great job as usual Prawn, very informative
How far away are the plants from the lights?
What's the ppfd of those buds closest to lights?

Hi mate, the distance has varied at times because I was running out of head space – the plants stretched for longer than planned. But on average I try to keep tham 40-50cm above the canopy and around 900 PPFD.

Beautiful mate! I keep asking what you think of the LA Amnesia because i'm keen to try it myself. Luc at Paradise Seeds rates the LA Amnesia over the Rainbow Road.

Got some updates on the Tangerine Sorbet. They are all looking great after their pH-pen fail nutrient issues earlier in the grow. The thing that strikes me most about them is how uniform they are and how close to the Wappa mother they appear. I already know this strain is a winner going by the amount of work Luc must have put into it to get it this uniform.

The lesson from this grow is to flower early and scrog hard! Like their Wappa mother, these plants like to stretch and then fill in their branches with sticlk buds. Wappa is a joy to trim, unlike many other strains.

Outta the 4 LA Amnesia seed plants 3 are quite uniform, the other one is taller with less branches.
The clone LA Amnesia has a touch of calcium deficiency. I very rarely get calcium deficiency and I had to a buy a bottle of Green Planet Pro Cal the other day. First time in years I've bought a bottle of that.
I had an old bottle that was well dozed, bits of hard lumps in it. I contacted the company and when they seen how old it was they must've had a right laugh! They said the bottle should have a barcode on it to identify it. There was none.
It was that old I don't think they'd invented barcodes at that stage.

It's harvest time!

This is #3. It is still flowering, so will be the last to be cut down. This gives you an idea of the overall size of each plant (admittedly this is the biggest).
IMG_8417.jpeg

Here's another angle. See the bleached spots on a couple of the lower leaves? They are Buddies burns. That's as bad as it gets, and only happens when the the leaf is in full contact with a Buddie for a period of time.

Here is a close-up #4, which is pretty frosty even though it won't yield as well. It's still not too bad. These plants are all super-oily and the final smells are all very sweet, like gellato, but with strong skunky fuel undertones. Some of the plants also have a minty-menthol flavour about them, like a typical OG strain.

The high from the scissor hash and a couple of pre-dried buds is immediate and strong, before settling into a good alround mixed sativa-indica type hybrid high. So far I like the high from #1 best as it is a little kinder. The general feeling is one of relaxation with some clarity, but not what you would call "euphoric". It is quite a body high with a little bit of head and if I haven't meantioned this already, it is STRONG. The high will only get better as the buds cure.

Cool thread, i've been thinking about dutch genetics again. Always wanted to try paradise Seeds.

That La Amnesia also piqued my interest.
