I have 5 young mother plants (well, hopefully theyre all female.)
3 Pineapple fields reg plants and 2 Peyote Gorilla fems.
(middle and left are pineapple, 2 on the right are PG)
My goal is to get 18 clones off one of these plants before putting them to flower.

What are the pros and cons to topping now vs letting them grow naturally before cloning?

I know height and shape are the obvious 2, but I am curious if there are other advantages I might not be aware of going into my 2nd personal grow.

Why take so many from one and limit yourself? Why not take 4-6 of each, watch the mothers mature, and make notes of pros/cons. Grow your clones, and clone again based on past known pro/cons. More changes the better since you never know how the plants will turn out in the end until it's too late to clone. Just a thought.

Good questions my friend
1st off/fuck dealing with mothers.
They will only produce a limited amount of viable cuts & that's it.
Plus your taking a chance as to whether or not it's a good plant.
Plus they take up useful space.
Mothers were popular when there was a shortage of seeds & that is not the case now fortunately.
You basically have 90 day's to produce a plant so you do not want to waste time.
Buy only fem seeds, they will be done in 90, whereas cloning actually takes longer
Do not top ever unless you want a SOG, which is cool if height is an issue. (I know/I'll hear shit about that/done it/been there/fuck topping :) )
Also remove the wrapper from the cubes= more air for the roots.
When I used a F&D system I would run it constantly, maintaining the water to about 1" from the bottom of the cubes.
The roots will grow directly into the solution & they love it.
