It’s so hard to get good tomatoes out here except in July/August/September.
You got that right. I've come to the conclusion that tomatoes are a seasonal fruit here. Supermarket tomatoes are an abomination. We gorge from the garden while they're here and then wait until the next year. The lady bought a couple the other day and she couldn't even eat them. I didn't even give them a taste. I knew better.

Something the wife and I disagree on, perhaps you guys and gals can chime in…. As shown in the ribs picture… I like just about all my meat with a little bit of charring. Not too much but a bit. I just think it adds flavor and texture. The wife's like "you just gave us cancer!" But she loses cuz I did the cooking tonight.

A little char every now and then, especially how your family eats, is not only not harmful, but necessary!

Yes they say "Studies have shown" and all that. I don't care. A little char on some occasional ribs is pretty far down on the list of cancer causes. Some of the chemicals and preservatives in foods these days are much worse. I'm cooking meat in the smoker, on the grill, over charcoal, over wood, and I'm never going to stop. I also like a nice cast iron pan seared steak.

Here’s my first wood burning pizza oven.
Was about a grand. Still have it. Can do a tray of meatballs or lasagna, or two pies.

What do you mean first? You have a second?

You sure are the ultimate foodie. I thought I had some clout in that area but after seeing some of your posts you're in a whole other league than I am. I'm Al Bundy in the backyard barbecuing and your Jacque Pepin.

I concur. You do have some awesome meals though. And you scored 4 touchdowns in a single game at Polk High!

There’s a lot of good shit going on in this thread including yours.
I’m just lucky I grew up in a family where everyone cooked, and had a passion for it.
My sister recently beat me in an Iron Chef type contest we had back at home.
Now she thinks she’s hot shit.
Rematch on the west coast this Summer.

A good tomato is hard to come by in the off season. These looked really good and I was expecting to be let down.

They weren't the shitty pink ones you tend to see. The ones you can tell that were in a refrigerated truck for a while. Yuck.

Nothing special, BBQ chicken with Stubbs sauce. Asparagus is down to $1.80 a pound.

I have some Oriental veggies and shrimp that I'm going to stir fry tonight to put over some rice. Wanted something different. Probably have some chili garlic sauce on the side.

Made a couple pizzas last night. It's hard to get the crust cooked properly before the top gets too done in my crappy electric oven. I've been thinking about building a brick pizza oven in the backyard. Maybe this year I'll finally do it.

I might just throw something like this together. Looks pretty simple. Just stack some bricks

I’ve been eyeing pizza ovens lol
