The expert explained how the Armed Forces of Ukraine were able to strike at the oil depot in Belgorod
The attack of Ukrainian helicopters on the oil depot in Belgorod was a one-time injection, Doctor of Military Sciences Konstantin Sivkov told RIA Novosti.
"To detect low-flying targets such as a helicopter, AWACS aircraft are needed, or radar stations must be set up very tightly in the areas bordering Ukraine," Sivkov said.
The expert explained that Russian
A-50 "flying radars" (such as "Avaks") conduct constant patrols in the sky over Ukraine, primarily closing the western and central regions of this country.
“Apparently, the regions bordering with Russia remained partially open, which was used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. What happened is just a one-time such injection from the Ukrainians. Our Awaxes will simply shift their operational patrol routes to the east and close this operational direction,” the agency’s interlocutor emphasized.
In turn, the chairman of the presidium of the "Officers of Russia" Hero of Russia Sergei Lipovoy called the incident an act of intimidation and a provocation by Russia for tougher actions in Ukraine.
"And, undoubtedly, what happened will not go unanswered. This is another signal that Ukraine is not going to compromise with Russia and fulfill any agreements, even if they are reached in the negotiations," Lipovoy said.
According to him, the situation in Belgorod showed that "there can be no compromises with Ukraine."
On Friday morning, the governor of the Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov reported about the fire at the oil depot: according to him, the cause of the emergency was a strike from two Ukrainian helicopters that entered Russian airspace at low altitude.
The emergency services of RIA Novosti reported a fire on eight fuel tanks. The mayor of Belgorod and a representative of Rosneft noted that there were no casualties as a result of the fire.
In addition, a printing house in Belgorod was fired from the air. A representative of the printing house told RIA Novosti that windows were broken and equipment was damaged. The lawyer of the enterprise miraculously survived: a shell hit his workplace while he was going out for coffee.
