glass greenhouse/little bit of lime wash vs uv treated poly greenhouse

The second option is mostly made with polycarbonate panels or with a huge net tarp that goes over the construction.
Since cannabis produce oils as reaction to uv Im not sure if I should buy new greenhouse when they have uv filters.
I was thinking about building my own diy but it seems in similar price point to a new metal one.
There is a huge advantage of it, cut and sewn + I can make light dep setup.
Not afraid of work just weighting my options
Im wondering if you guys have grown both under the glass and under plastic and can compare
thank you wish everyone a beautiful day

Greenhouse plastic is UV resistant so it doesnt deteriorate in one season and turn brittle. It is not a UV filter.

Polycarbonate on the other hand naturally filters out most of the UV spectrum. That being said, I use those panels from home depot and my weed is still stinky and oily. I only use it as a roof so plants still receive a lot of indirect UV that comes in through the sides of my greenhouse or reflects off other surfaces.

Greenhouse plastic seems to be less lasting but if it does not filter uv light as poly it is still a better option, Im wonder how it would compare to glass painted gradually with milky film of limewash, not easily to see through yet not blocking light totally. Soeaking of your panels Im from overseas, what kind of thickness they are? are they standard poly sheets?
Im now wondering if I should buy old glass frame with limewash or go with that cheap greenhouse plastic structure

I also thought about building my own, that would provide me with a possibility to left the bottom sides open for ventilation and to cover just the top and sides (I wanted to do some diy light depth experiments as well)

Thank you very much for your help friend :)

For the price of a small glass structure you could build a serious hoop house imo
Just saw a glass 10 x12 kit for 3500.00 ya right
If you have the skills build your own

I would imagine replacing greenhouse plastic would be cheaper than replacing a pane of glass if something happens too

Im not sure if I stated it there but the glass structure is more in the cheapest hoophouse price range that is depicted above
The glassstructure was old one, probably decades old, sold for cheaper.
From previous missions I fixed some broken glass windows on my old greenhouse. Im still wondering if there is some better option than limewash to conceal, some kind of hoophouse foil? The plastic sold here is usually quite translucent.
I wish I could see comparison between glass grown and poly grown

If you have glass there are coatings available

These are the panels I use. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Suntuf-26-in-x-12-ft-Polycarbonate-Roofing-Panel-in-Clear-101699/100049922

It doesn’t list thickness but they are fairly flexible. I didn’t tie them down good enough when I was driving them home and one of the panels folded in half while from the wind. I ended up cutting off that End anyway so it wasn’t a loss.

have you ever grown outdoors so you would compare how the plants and effects are ?

thx for the site with coatings checking them out, Im curious how it compares to whitewash or poly foil or panels
I remember seeing ridgeline farms using similar yet milky plastic on the roof, his idea was to deprive plants/stress them he grew smaller amounts and plants yet his medicine seemed stronger. It happened to me couple times to have this little single cola dwarf that was put out very late and that little fucker tasted and out of this world pure mango peachy goodness

I made a DIY hoop house and used the greenhouse plastic then put a sun shade cloth over it because it got so hot inside of it. One thing to note is make sure you can open all sides of it for air flow or you may run into mold and mildew issues later in the season if you live in a humid area. I made a 10x20 hoop with PVC for the hoops and wood around the bottom to tie it all together and it cost me about 400 in total with the greenhouse plastic and I really like it but I had to screen in the ends and sides that open up too keep the pest out. If I did it again I would use the poly sheets and wood or steel frame as it would be far sturdier and longer lasting. Best thing to do is really think about what you want to accomplish with it and how much work you want to put into it and think about the layout so it serves your purpose the best. This all just my opinion and from what I’ve learned from just tossing together my first DIY hoop house. Hope it helps a little

Where ya live fam, sun must be baking there, thats a smart idea to put the shade cloth on, you mean that green one? Would enough light still get through?
What kind of screens did you used for keeping the pests out?
The thing about the glass structure is that it have those hydraulic piston valves (I dont remember how its called) that valve which expands and open the Top window when its hot, the cheapo premade tunnel poly tunnel available here lasts few seasons(which is not a problem but if it would last it would be bonus) , got that shading cloth and uv protection already built in but it has side windows instead of top, looking at it I would either opt out for replacing doors (with maybe screen for better air exchange.

on diy hoophouse you can modify this to whatever you want i.e keep the bottom rolled up to let the air flow right?
this costs about 120 bucks from where Im from,

New Greenhouse Strong (3m x 6m; 9.8ft x 19.6ft) for sale in Longford for €760 on DoneDeal

shit like this around 500 depends on the lenght and thickness of the polycarbonate
I consider it tougher to vent in summer even through those small top door windows open on both sides
this with top opening cost about 700,
1648900340259.png

compared to the green shaded structure above it seems to last longer and is obviously tougher and since heat traps usually at the top it seems like a better option overall.
But the thing that was mentioned here, that it blocks uv ( I only thouught polycarbonate affects light dispersion)
I hate auto dwarfs, to me its a waste of space a couple of big mommas work better for me, but if this wont let me grow type of medicine that glass greenhouse let me, then I would go with glass. I mean if my yield and buzz would be affected in big way, I would like to avoid it.
People tends to avoid diy projects if they dont have materials already collected since, the materials itself are usually more expensive when you buy them, than these premade structures

Im really intrigued by how your diy structure might look like with the screens on sides etc ( I might have some source for cheapo polycarbonate roof)
I really wonder if wind and air flow through there easily.

I mainly would use the structure for purpose of concealment and protection from rain and other natural elements.

If i could get the middle one for 500 id have a few . Thats a decent size for that imo especially if theres any quality at all

I used the 40% shade cloth that way I can remove it if we are going to have not so warm or sunny weather. This year I’m going to setup an light deprevation canopy like a roll up awning that will roll up when not in use. I’m going to try to put it on actuators so I can have it work automatically at same time daily. It’s a work in progress to see if I can make it work. Last season I only had the ends opened with just screen over them but it still wasn’t enough air flow for my humid climate so this season the sides will be opened up to about 2-3feet off the ground and screened in hopefully that helps

the screen I used was just small holed screen from lowes. I think it’s just poly material but make sure it’s small holed or some pest will through it and all flying pest seem to love the warmth in there.

Thosr outsunny type ones in the first pic dont last here unless you take down every fall
because of winds? I read some horror stories and saw some pics of those cheapo structures being devastated.
Im from EU so no tornadoes fortunately yet but lots of rain
All those structures, both those cheapo net ones and poly-carbonate panels are brought here from china.
Now all I need to really know how those panels and their thickness ( they are double walled with airgaps inside) impacts production of grease and quality bud , since I remember both indoors and in greenhouses there are uvb lights used and the plant forms the grease as form of protection from that uv sunburn. I read some articles about how it affects like dispersion but not grease
