Utilizing 4ft of vertical space, thin LED. I’m in a situation!

I just moved and have minimal space until the addition is finished, only 4 foot vertically. I’m used to growing notill using big pots/beds. I really only have two options…

Try out SOG for the first time, or use short/extra wide pots and be diligent in LSTing the shoots to grow horizontally. I have an HLG Scorpion R Spec which is large and only 2.75in deep.

I was thinking it wold be totally doable using the short/extra wide pots, using organic soil and making sure to train the plants to grow horizontally. It wouldn’t be that much different then those with a 7ft tent with a 1ft deep grow hood, just my plants would be a little smaller and trained to the max horizontally?

Thoughts/suggestions would be just lovely!

Scrog all day. Instead of using a tall pot, I would just pop a seed in a small bag of happy frog. The bag laying on the floor would serve as a low profile pot for your roots. Plenty of space as well.
I like to make my own soil but yea, thanks for the suggestion and leading me the right way. I’ve seen these fabric pots that were only like 8-10in tall but extra wide… i’d have enough soil mass to grow organically while using minimal space.

I was thinking i’ll top it once, and then train everything completely horizontally. I’d imagine it would work great if I was diligent in the LST?

Yes. LST will be your best friend. I have a plant that is similar to what you are looking forward to started in a cup.. the thing topped itself due to the center growth drying up & dying.. weird.. but I’ll take it.

I let it get about a foot tall

I tied them down as far out as I can to keep them wide. She was 6” tall from the soil after the tops turned up on the end.

Good example for me to look at, thanks. I’d probably end LSTing mine sooner than you did, just due to space. If I had your plant (in my space obviously,) I’d most the green wire to the tops and pull those down keeping it growing horizontally.

My next thoughts are the shoots growing up that are going to become tops. I’m thinking I’d have half go one way, and half go the other, horizontally. That’s obviously what i’d have to do, and that sounds legit right?

I might have to chop some off as I probably don’t want more than 8 shoots or so per plant?

She’s grown since. I may pull her down some more. View attachment 5104714

I’ve gone further with lst & topping.
you can get the whole space full if you wanted to & had the patience.
this was a 120 day veg
