Ideal Veg Period Is A Product of Space?

Well half a pound off a full 3x3 should be easy if everything stays healthy and you take off the crap that won't get enough light once buds are formed.

There really is no optimum veg time, just preference.

Fully agree on not mixing coco and soil.
If I wanted to add amendments I wouldn't be using coco in the first place.
I blame youtube

There are some mixes that come this way...but yeah, I feel like those who are trying their hand at mixed mediums like this have watched a few too many dubious youtube videos.

When you guys talk about veg time are you counting from the time the sprout breaks the soil or once it hits a certain size?

some people seem to go by sprout date and some start counting veg when they’re like 2 weeks old from what I can tell.

I hope it works well for you, but it's generally not advisable to mix soil with coco; pick one or the other. It's reasonable to assume you'd get some synergistic "best of both worlds" effect but they have very different properties.
This was exactly my logic (though sounds flawed). I was too scared to totally scrap soil given this was my first grow. Obviously too late now. But hey, no where to go but up!

For reference - I’m 7 weeks from the moment the thing broke through the soil.

I count from time I see it pop out of its medium; anything else seems wrong by definition.

This makes sense - depending on how this goes - I may upgrade to a 5x5x80
Alas, I don't have room for a 5x5, but do have the perfect tent for the space I do have, which ends up being 2.6'x5'x6.7' (33"x60"x80"). While lots of people here are focused on quantity harvest, I'm not. The tent works fine for 4ish smaller plants or as I'm doing right now, 2x plants I expect will get bigger. I don't go through any of it quick enough to need to prioritize high quantity.

I give about a week from the plant breaking the soil. I consider the first 'real' leaves to be the start of Veg. Then if I really need to think in weeks, my timeline remains consistent. Since seed-pushers estimates and schedules aren't accurate in the least, I don't really end up caring about the number of weeks in any particular capacity.

Well - by that measure I’m only at 5 and 6 week vegs respectively.

I’ve also got the issue that I’m likely to produce far more than I need. Planning to just basically give it away. That said, for me it’s really just the challenge of producing the most awesome plant I can. Some day I’d like to hit a pound for a single plant indoors.

Too afraid to sell it. Too much to lose at this point in my life.

I have no interest in selling anything. The other problem I have is that even though legal here in state, my local friends aren't necessarily ones that I want to know I'm growing and all that, so It's been harder to give it away than you'd think. My wife keeps saying that so-and-so that she's friends with would be happy with some, but when I tell her to give away a bunch, it never happens. I've been converting a bunch of it to FECO to use for other projects and will continue to do that and/or make oil/butter based edibles as well.

Being centered on churning out a specific amount is probably not a good mode for a first grow. Grow to learn the basics and as it comes together you'll end up with better harvests. My first tentful only ended up being half a pound. The second time it was 3/4ths of a pound, etc., etc. etc.

As someone who's an innate researcher/analyzer in general, I too did a whole bunch of reading and exploring online before I jumped in. And it feels like you have a handle on things until you do it. But there's a certain amount that you just need to do and work through to figure out, and other things that you have to see what works best vs. what others are telling you.

One of the reasons I'm doing a classic sativa right now is that I know that they tend to go long and sometimes are a bit lighter in yield...that fits what I need. I like the growing and I have a pound sitting on the shelf already. Time to slow down, spend time doing a bit more training and trimming, allowing for recovery and not worry about a long flower period.
