Bottled calmag in organic soil

I just read on here a thread that says, if you use bottled Calmag (Botanicare) in organic soil, you destroy the microbes. Is this true and if so what other Calmag would you suggest for organics.

I'm not sure if it would hurt the microherd but it has the potential to throw of the cation exchange in the soil.

Oyster shell flour for calcium (or Gypsum for the added sulfur) and compost is rich in magnesium. Keep in mind, most amendments need time to break down before they're available.
Without more info, its hard to make suggestions.
Did you amend the soil yourself?
Is it a form of Super Soil or ROLS?


You shouldnt need bottled nutrients with a well amended soil.

My soil is EB Stone 420 recipe
 
Some guys make a tea with domolite lime,Never tried it myself though.Need to determine if you need Ca or Mg first.
 
EB Stone 420 contains: Aged Forest Products, Coir, Sphagnum Peat Moss, Pumice, Earthworm Castings, Feather Meal, Seabird Guano, Crab Meal, Fish Bone Meal, Humic Acid from Leonardite, Gypsum, Oystershell Lime (pH adjuster), Dolomite Lime (pH adjuster), Bat Guano, Kelp Meal and Wetting agent (Yucca Schidigera Saponin) enhanced with Mycorrhizal fungi and beneficial soil bacteria.

Seems like a well amended soil. What are you observing that leads you to believe you need to supplement with calmag? Or what are you observing in the plants? Are they showing a Cal or Mg deficiency?

If its Mg, you could always do a drench or foliar of epsom. 1/4 tsp per gallon. More if needed.
Mag deficiencies are somewhat common in a lot substrates as it washes out easily but a well amended soil should have plenty.

If its lacking Cal, you need to find out why. Is it locked out due to pH imbalance or another elemental antagonist from something else added or poor water quality?

Yellowing leaves on seedling and some yellowing on another plant that is ready to flower. So I used a cap full of Calmag in which this is my second grow and I've been using it for about 7 or 8 months. I just read about Calmag and organic soil today.
 
I really didn't see any issues in using it. The plants didn't show me anything that I should be concerned about and it corrected the deficiency.
 
I have 3 plants growing now. 1 Jock Horror, 1 Zkittloez, and 1 Gelato 33 all Autos So for my next grow should I prepare my pots now for the addition of lime and langbeinite so it can break down in the soil. I have about 2 months left on my current grow. That way the dry amendments will be ready to be used by the plant immediately

Seedling yellowing is moisture stress or ph. Seedlings don't need food, especially in amended soil.

It is not true. Inorganic cal-mag at reasonable concentrations will not harm living soil.
 
The problem with using bottled calmag in living soil, imo, is unless you know which one your deficient of, you might make one a toxicity. You don't want a calcium buildup to toxicity in living soil because you don't want to flush excess out of the soil. If it's working for you, great, but if you're cycling soil, you're going to end up toxic eventually. That's just my opinion though. I don't have science to back it up and I'm high af right now. Lol
