Fully enclosing hoophouse?

So I’ve got a hoophouse that I built this year to avoid rain on the flowers but they got bud rot anyway due to the moisture in the air.

I left the sides of the hoophouse open to improve air circulation but that obviously didn’t do shit to help.

Next year, should I totally cover all sides during shitty weather? Does it matter that I’d still have openings at the bottom? Getting it airtight would be next to impossible.

you wouldent want it air tight anyway, you would end up baking the plants. and you would get a moisture build up too.
youcan coverthe sides and still be ok with the side vents open and a door, these will allow enough heat to escape so as not to create a hot box

That's a shame to hear @Mrs. Weedstein, they're really beautiful!

Might still be dependent on the ground in wet weather too. I'm not totally sure.
Considering one for myself also, for early starts. But I get 90%+ humidity every night and many days through flower. Feel like it may make my own situation worse. They also need the airflow.

I've always had to deal with bud rot myself too. I realize we're limited by where we can safely plant outside. But is there a spot with all day sun, you could move the hoop house to?
A short flowering indica might help you too. One with colas on the slender side.
Despite what they say, i've found fluffy / airy sativas to be the worst. There're so many spaces for spores to stick to and germinate. Especially the large fat ones.

Trying some preventatives myself this year. (EM-1 and Potassium Silicate)
If it works for me, i'll give you a shout out. You'll be starting again when mine are coming down.
I'll be thrilled if it works even just a little tbh.
Great plants! :weed:

Hey man, I dig the house. I really need something like that. Even with bringing mine underneath the covered deck each night (to protect from dew), I'm losing so much to bud rot. My airflow is awesome, but the plants are still rotting away. I think all of us are just screwed around here....

Good seeing you again too.

Yeah I mistakenly thought the cover would solve most of my problems but no such luck. I have identified a couple cultivars that seem pretty resistant, though, so I will be breeding more with those.

I figure I will try closing up the sides loosely then next year and see if it helps any. Moving the hoophouse isn’t an option as it’s cemented in, but that’s still the best spot for it. The part of my yard that gets the most sun is a septic drain field that I cannot build on or plant within.

I'd be really interested how that works out for you. I'm pretty sure It's @xtsho that's trying the something similar. Sure would be nice if it does help out.

I'm in a similar situation. My only spot to grow is pretty heavily shaded by trees, and there's nothing I can do about it. Guess I could move..... Lol

For sure mate. If I have any success with it, i'll make sure to pass on the word and let you know. The EM-1 is recommended at dawn or dusk and ideally when humid / wet. And safe all through flower, so they say. Perfect if it's effective at all.

Same boat as you two. Afternoon shade and eyes everywhere lol.

I think a little hot box effect would be beneficial in drying out some of the humidity in the tent. I am planning on building a hoop house for next year. I'm thinking the extra heat and keeping the dew and frost off the plants will help lessen the bud rot. I realize it can't be too air tight or it will hold in humidity. I think limited venting with the sunshine should drive the moisture out of the tent. It should also limit the mold spores getting on the plants. That's just my theory anyway.

Lol. Yeah, anymore eyes around here and I may as well plant them out by the street....

Despite the bud rot problems, I have to say outdoor is still the way to go. Here is my harvest nearly half done, maybe 3/7. It’s still a lot of weed the sun has provided me with minimal effort.

Bud rot is a matter of looking at glass half full or empty. It seems like a big loss because you could have had so much more bud, but when you look at the amount of bud I have for very little effort, it’s still a good deal.

I am still a proponent of growing outdoors even though we have so many problems at the end of the season. From what the indoor guys deal with, it seems like they have no shortage of problems. From my indoor tent that I run experiments in, it’s also challenging for different reasons.

I will never shit on indoor growing because it’s challenging and fun, but ultimately I think the cannabis industry will be headed in the outdoor direction. It’s just so much more economical. No lights, no cords, no fans, no crazy complicated hydroponic setups (which I respect but avoid) — just a crop that grows huge.

It’s friday and grandma’s drunk, but you get my drift...
