Some recent info i stumbled upon explained that a healthy soil does the floating on its own. The soil food web/microbes/roots all do their thang together and actually "float" the ph up and down a few 1/10s for the exact reason we do it. More nute uptake. Ive always known good soil has a decent ph but i never knew it actually floated to compensate the different nutes. 3 decades in and still PLENTY to learn! i love plants !I would, no matter what medium. I try to let my pH 'float' up and down a couple of points (ie. 0.1-0.3) every few feedings for maximum nutrient uptake. Soil is more forgiving, but in my humble opinion not an excuse to not configure the water going in properly. You can distort the pH buffer in soil by continuously pouring high (or low) pH water on it long enough.
