Even in the HID VS LED debate comparisons should be W for W. Watts a constant.Your right its not, just what happened , least in euro hydro shops. They were all touting them as equal to 600 hps at one point.
Doesn't help anyone to overstate somethings capabilities. Its not the bubs fault though.

Agreed. Both are near perfect for a 4 x 4. 2 x 315s will cover the canopy better than a single 600. 600 will have slightly better penetration. 630wDE CMH will have better penetration than the 600w but less canopy coverage of the 3 x 315s.
i got them nice and dialed in it took a while to get led temps where i want them to be.
i did notice that the buds for me where a little bit more compact and just more small plants but i was getting really good frost with the cmh compared to led. led for me the buds are really nice and formed and just frosty as hell but nothing much on fan leaves or not much on the sugar leaves front. Cmh frost everywhere there was a bud site. hps i kinda did notice it but not as much, In-between led and cmh for frost. cmh short stubby frosty plants hps all around.led for efficiency and versatility i would get crazy dense buds throughout most of the plant but maybe was because i was running more power. all lighting has its owns pros and cons thats for sure.

I can agree to the cmh deceloping more frost and cannibinoids when i did a run with the 315w cmh in the middle of my hps lights i noticed big increase in quality
i supplement 630watts of CMH with 400watts of HPS in a 5x5 and kill it every cycle...I’ve tried every damn combo of lights you can imagine, but settled on 1 630wCMH fixture, horizontal( mixed spectrum bulbs, ushio 3800K + Hortilux 4100K) + in flower only I add an open bulb, vertical hanging 400w Hortilux enhanced spectrum HPS bulb. I swear and promise my buds are bigger and frostier and more potent than any of my bros growing under “just HPS” or “all COBS” or “LED all the way”.......plants given a mixed spectrum and heavy photon bombardment always reward!
Yes indeed this should be a very good spectrum I wonder how it looks like,,,, perhaps something like this in your veg-stage?
Before I started my grow I spent a full 2-3 weeks crushing my brain with every detail about every light and there are so many things about each light and it gets so damn confusing.
short version is this- HPS is big buds, ling nodes and less leaves...CMH is smaller buds, more leaves, stronger potency and better color/nose/frosting.....MH is compact, small rock hard nugs covered in frost but little weight and usually potent as hell.....LEDs can vary and produce good results but small yields, may look great and not be strong or vice versa....then you got cfl or T5 which work but IMO only for small veg or germinating plants.
If this is the case I'm going to pour all types of light in the grow and switch it up.
I got my hydrocrunch for 175 with a philips bulb but they went up when they got more popular
Im going to toss an LED into my grow, which I am also using CMH.
