I grow organically and don’t flush either, although I do understand ones reason for doing so. My thought is if I have to flush it, I probably shouldn’t have put it in there in the first place, but that’s me. Weed was grown waaaaaay before all the things we do now. Is that weed or genetic strain still around today, chances are probably not. So no one is really in a position to compare what we harvest now to what was harvested back then. I’m sure they got away with growing without Nutes, drying for an excess amount of days, and not curing and the weed was probably excellent. Did that make their harvest better than the harvest of today? Who knows. To some degree there is a little bit of science behind growing, even though it is just a weed and will grow absolutely fine without us doing anything to it. I however have grown a plant with absolutely nothing but water. The plant did make it to harvest, had a decent yield, but was no where near as “ potent “ as the stuff I grow organically, and yes it was a clone, not a completely different strain. So I was comparing apples to apples.
There were some good points brought up by both Lingual and 2Hearts. I’m sure my father in law, who is an old school grower would definitely hop on their band wagon, and why shouldn’t he, he grew up when all this crazy stuff we feed plants today wasn’t available. He even asked why I bother with curing. He said, “ If all you are going to do is finish the dry process in a jar, why not just leave the buds hanging for a longer period of time and skip the jar“..... It actually made sense and I plan on doing just that with this harvest I have coming up. But once again, the genetics he had back then isn’t around today, so maybe it was the genetics coming through his grows that made all the difference for his harvest, without the need to cure to bring the life out of the buds like we do today.
I mentioned science before because there are things you can do to either improve, or flat out destroy your harvest. I think we can all agree that we lean more toward the improvement side of things. Whether that be bottle feeding, growing organically, drying for long periods of time, no jarring, etc etc etc. We all have our way of doing things, and just because they may differ from each other doesn’t make them right or wrong. Just different. I’m always willing to try things the old school growers mention. Maybe it will help, maybe it wouldn’t. But at least I tried it so I can say for myself that it either improved, or didn’t make a difference at all.
