When I was writing the post you quoted I had to force myself to admit any culpability or to say anything that could be construed as backing down or wimping out, to spew anything but macho Alberta bullshit.

Then I remembered this isn't a pissing contest in the coverall room of a shutdown, this is human beings having a discussion. Compromise and agreement and finding common views is the desired result.

Too many years in construction, too many years fighting with supervision and management, with other trades, with engineers, with idiotic safety guys, with greedy/crooked union people. Fuck I'm tired of it all, it's such a self-perpetuating thing.
I'm trying my best to move past that, and it's great to find like-minded people, especially ones who are growers. Cheers, gentlemen.

you're so right about too many years in construction. I've been an estimator/project manager for 20 years, and i don't want to fight any longer, either...for that. i'm tired of the same rhetoric and lies from self absorbed, narcissistic construction managers and owners.

2 years ago i decided i wanted to work from home, so since then i've been working on consulting as a takeoff estimator and i'm just about done my software to get going on my own. getting excited to start very soon. the timing with this covid thing seemed to happen perfectly for the direction i was going...working from home remotely. fuck the rat race of spending no less than 2 hours a day commuting. ill do what it takes to make this happen for me and my family.

its nice that we can chat about this, to like minded folk, as you say. as long as assholes don't come in here after a half dozen vodkas; spouting their mouths, getting cocky and telling people to fuck off...man i still felt guilty about yesterday, when i woke up this morning, lol...moving on.

I miss doing project management. That was probably my favorite work. Read the contract, look for possible trouble points or unclear details, get clarification(paper trail for EVERYTHING), and then make sure your people have what they need to do their job and stay out of their way. I thought of myself like a hockey ref, if you didn't notice me it meant I was doing my job.

As an experienced tradesman doing PM, it was so gratifying to be able to make things as smooth as possible for the people on the tools.

And then the economy crashed again. Yay. Oh well, working up and down the ladder gives a perspective that I find invaluable. It also let me see that at the end of the day, the people in the boardroom are often no happier than the guy pushing the broom.

haha, i like the ref analogy...so very true. I loved PM'ing too, just not when you had a construction manager that would undermine you, call you a hack, but could never give constructive feedback, would literally just tell you that you suck and always expected 20% more next week even when your maxed out. i knew the truth though cause all my site guys loved me; i had they're shit organized, sorted and resolved better than any other PMs, and if i missed something, i owned it and knew the urgency of getting it done quick and accurately. I have a much better outlook on life now.

Yeah, there is nothing more demoralizing than busting your ass on site to hit goals and then have it all go for nothing because the PM didn't order enough long-delivery "item x" or book NDE crews, or schedule the inspector to approve a hold point.

Now a refinery can't start up on time, at a loss of millions/day in revenue and you and your people are usually blamed.

(I hope nobody minds this discussion. We can shut it down if so. Just figured not much else was going on and others here might relate.)

Just went and dropped four of my homemade seeds in some coco: C99, pineapple pheno, x Blueberry. This cross has been successfully germinated but only males, so here's fingers crossed for some girls. Still don't want full tents for July and August, but I'll keep a few going.

First seedling is up and spreading its cotyledons and 2 of the other 3 look like they are not far behind.
I love growing seeds I made. I get far more satisfaction from this than from buying seeds these days.

Reread this and realized I didn't express myself very well. I was saying good on ya' for being one of those PM's who understands the importance of listening to the front-line people and taking their input into account.

No shit. The price some people think their seeds are worth baffles me.

Given the quality medicine I've grown from Canadian breeders like PSBC, JOTI, L13 and SSC, where the most expensive buy was still under $70/pack, I see no reason to bother with the expensive stuff.
