Wow, and I thought pot was supposed to make people mellow! I'm glad I at least got an honorable mention from babygro.
I was going to mention that the soil looked very poor as well but didn't care to go on too much without knowing more. But, now I will elaborate a bit on my opinion. I can safely say that is not the best way to start seeds or cuts, as seen in the attached pics. Neither the soil nor the cups are appropriate. I prefer an item called Oasis Horticubes. They are softer than rock wool and therefore let sprouts root much faster and easier, hence bigger, bushier plants sooner. Plus they don't fuck with your ph like rock wool. All you have to do with them is pre-wet them to use and then just keep them damp. I keep them in a clear covered flat or tray with a heat mat under them, on the same timer as the lights. For germination and clone lights I use cheap AgroSun full spectrum flouros or cheaper Gro-Lux, right down almost touching the cover. With the cover in place the space inside is like a mini rain forest and plants thrive in there and seeds burst open in record time. To water I simply lift the cover and put enough water in to keep the cubes damp. I have roots 6" long in less than two weeks off of cuts and same off a seed dropped into the cube. So easy and almost 100% success, all things considered! Once rooted, simply drop into a rock wool block, Hydroton rocks, soil, whatever. I have also been telling folks in a different thread to not close that hole in the cube around a seed or cutting as they both need oxygen to grow. All you need do is drop a seed into the hole, making sure it is in good contact with the bottom of the hole but not punched into the material. It does not matter a bit which way the seed is pointed, either! Just drop it in and if it is a viable seed, it will sprout. Another nice thing about leaving the hole open around the seed is you don't experience stem rot in youngsters. Okay, I have held council long enough. BabyGro is probably pissed about something else so I will sign off. I can only hope he/she has taken time to sample a bit of his/her own-grown commodity, eh?
