no because its old school and better for the plants than digital

i still say 400 sontiagro at arround 2.3 amps draw with an open shade is better for anyone, as a first light, or fall back light, for noobs or pros as they can be used for flower and veg, have less heat issues

than a 600hps for that stuff, obviously if your growing pounds you will want one or two 600s

400s still grow great weed, if the plant is not to big
there no difference between an electronic ballast and a magnetic ballast other than the cost and the fact the digital ballast can be turned down in some cases (but you shouldn’t because it reduces the bulbs life and doesn’t output the correct spectrum).

I recommend a 600 because most people will outgrow a 400 rather quickly and a 600 lights a 1.2x1.2m tent nicely.

Yeah shit yeild 1000 better.
Digital also so you can turn down in veg an turn up in bloom more yeild 150 for a globe pffft half oz who cares.

High in Phosphorous - perfect addition for flowering (just what I need right now, as I have a deficiency in a couple of plants), but where to get it????
bunnings sell an organic bird (I think) guano that does the same job.

What strain of Lactobacillus are we talking about? Chances are, I can access it & pass-on a cheap source & advice onm how to grow your own.
bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki for cats and other leaf eating grubs.

bacillus thuringiensis israelensis for gnatts

The price of a digital can make some newer growers a bit iffy compared to a cheap magnetic. For a persons first few runs just hanging it higher for veg will suffice until they get other skills down pat.

personally I’d never run a 1000w hps. They loose efficiency and spectrum over the 600’s so if I needed the photons I’d just whack a second 600 in there. Each persons eventual grow style is different but and they can choose equipment based on their own needs once they know what those needs are.

Fair enough.
My personal opion is if you want weight either a 600 and a 400 over 4x4 tent.
Or 315 and 600
Or 1000 hps digital.

I do agree that a 600 is a good starting point.
Also digital is more efficient on power.

I’m about to start flower with a 600hps and 2 240w cob. I’m thinking that it’s a good balance of light vs heat vs added spectrum. 3000k leds. I have a 250w mag hps somewhere. I might use 1 led and 1 hps next time and see which side of the tent likes what more.

Best I give you some pointers in the right direction, there’s way to much to explain in a post m8.

Get yourself on of these ir temp guns from Bunnings to measure LST (leaf surface temperature) you’ll also need a digital temp and rh meter.

Have a read of these articles

Then study up on VPD (vapour pressure deficit.) there’s also a link to get a VPD chart, and you can use the learnings from these articles to get going.

I’m on and off grid until early next week, and can give you some more practical info then.

Just bear in mind if you go down this path you’ll need some way of controlling your growing environment for best results without burning cash on co2.

I have thoroughly read the med tek article and it’s how I’ve set up my space.

When the lights are on, external air travels through the cool tube, while the tent is sealed. Then when the lights turn off, fresh air is forced into the tent and pulled through a carbon filter within the tent. These are controlled by a/c zone dampers. I got the idea from the above article.

There is a wealth of knowledge out there these days. A lot more than 10 years ago!

Sounds like a good mixture. 600 in middle cobs either side
