Looks awesome twalte!

And fingers crossed for the seeds. I hear you about how frustrating it can be sprouting. That and cloning are the two parts of growing that have given me the most anxiety historically.

Honestly, that’s why I chose to adopt a KISS mindset with both practices.

Clones I just use scissors (don’t even bother cleaning them unless maybe they are caked in keif from trimming and won’t function properly) to cut off the lower leaves, usually (but not always) cut off the tips of the leaves one node down, cut the bottom stem at a 45 degree angle, dip into rooting gel (or use aloe if I’m out) and put into a roofer plug (or occasionally straight into soil if I’m out of plugs). Have had nearly 100% success with this method.

So now cloning rarely worries me. Even the times I have taken clones the day I harvest the plant I’m confident they will root, and they almost all do.

Likewise, as you can see in my journal, I experimented with a couple methods of seed germination this time around and found that putting the seeds straight into moist medium (used rapid rooter plugs, but have planted straight into soil in the past too), no soaking, and putting the seeds/plugs directly under lights (so really no concern for darkness) I still got 5 out of 5 seeds to pop (in fact of the 11 I planted the only one that didn’t pop had been soaked for 24 hours before being planted so was likely just a dud).

I’m convinced that seeds only truly require moisture and warmth/correct temperature to grow. Everything else is expendable/preference.

So no more overthinking and over complicating seed sprouting for me. Just straight to moist soil or into root plugs, under a humidity dome, onto a heat mat and a grow light. Any viable seed should sprout just fine.

Hope this helps bring your mind some ease. And check my account of my seed sprouting experiment for evidence of you need help convincing yourself further.

Happy growing.

p.s. Badass that you got one of the UV lights back into the tent! Definitely still looking forward to hear your thoughts on whether you feel it made any positive difference.

Today is the start of Week 17 (week 10 since flip). The Gorilla Glue has one girl with nice purple traces. The plants are almost ready to harvest.

Here are the trichome shots. I think I’m harvesting in 7 days or less. I plan on doing 48 hours of darkness before harvest if possible. I don’t want much amber or clear in my final harvest.

And finally, the seedlings and one monstercrop are still alive. One Of the two seeds popped!!! I still have one seeds in jiffy pellets. If it doesnt sprout, that will put my germination rate at slightly over 50 percent!! (That sucks)

I saw your experiment and I’m in agreement. I’m going to try a rapid rooters one more time....planted in coco and kept warm. I’m doing something wrong.

On the UVB lamp, I can’t say that I’ve seen anything extraordinary. I’m currently running it about 18 inches above my canopy and for 3 hours. I can see leaf stress under the plant if I run it too much nonstop. However, I don’t have a control group without uvb to compare to. Check out @.Smoke journal too as he’s experimenting with the UVB. I noticed that the pistils turn dark earlier than normal, but the trichomes aren’t maturing any faster. Smoke is also picking up added aroma when he runs the uvb lamp.

I’m going to check out your germination posts again. Thanks!!

Hmmm, not sure.

Some details to sprouting in medium that I recently picked up are:

1) Seeds need air to germinate. So after you soak/wet the soil/medium you want to stir it up with a chopstick or some other long thin implement, before planting the seed in it. Without air your success rate will be much lower.

2) Put them under light. IME it’s a myth that they need darkness to sprout. And even if they did, the medium should provide plenty.

If those are already things you are doing, then I guess the only ingredients left I can advise are patience and faith.

Hope this helps.

Day 6 of the seedlings. They grew taller and lankier than I had hoped, so I buried them a little deeper in one gallon containers. Their roots were starting to poke out of the holes in the bottom of the cup on a few cups. I’m feeding them several times a day with 400ppm solution. I’m also foliar feeding with seaweed extract and RO water.

Day 117 on Gorilla Glue and I’m in the middle of week 10 since the flip to 12/12 lighting. We’re just waiting for trichomes. I’m looking for all cloudy and very few amber or clear. Based on these shots, I’m planning to put her into 48 hours of darkness on Friday and harvest her on Sunday if the trichomes are cooperating. I have time and can go another week if needed.

As for the seedlings, they’re looking healthy and I’m keeping them watered in their coco coir mix. I’m spraying them multiple times per day with seaweed extract and RO water. They are getting 15,000 lux of light.

Man, Tom Petty was definitely right when he said, “the waiting is the hardest part.” Excited for you being so close to harvest!

Looks like all 6 seeds eventually sprouted! Awesome!

LOL.
You were right!! They need air. I basically gave up on those two seeds (stopped watering them) and left them on the seed warmer mat. They still ended up popping, I think I’ve been drowning them. Thanks! I think my future germination will go much better now.

Day 118 on the OG Kush. It’s week #10 since flipping to 12/12 lighting.

I moved her into a dark closet for a 48 hour rest. Based on this study, 48 hours of darkness provides the highest THC level. I plan to harvest her on Friday. Results are provided below....but the video shows the process they used if you are interested.

Results of the test.....

In honor of the soon to be harvest, I light this bowl of OG Kush to ensure a good yield for you! :)

Interesting! Had always wondered about the legitimacy of the long period of darkness prior to harvesting but hadn’t seen any objective experiments done to either prove or disprove it. Very cool to finally see some definitive evidence that supports it.

Also interesting to see that different Terps seem to have different ideal periods of darkness.

Thanks for sharing.

Glad to do it.....it’s the only example I could find that had data to back up the claims of higher THC. Anyway, looks like 48 hours is the sweet spot, so that’s the plan.

Seedlings Day 10. I gave them some Recharge along with their nutrients this week. Feeding at 270 ppm and 5.8 ph.

Bad news on the OG Kush that I had planned to harvest tomorrow. I pulled another cola off to examine trichomes and they are still too clear. I put her back into the tent for another week. I’d rather wait and harvest her when she is properly ripe.

Today is the start of week 18 since germinating. It’s also week 11 since flipping to 12/12. I am growing two strains that have a breeder flowering time of 7-9 weeks. What are they smoking?? Still seeing clear trichomes. Also running these girls under 4 hours of UVB per day to increase THC.

Day 12 on the seedlings. Definitely seeing a huge difference in growth speed in coco coir over soil. I’m still foliar feeding with Maxicrop seaweed extract. They are being fed 50% of the GH Trio schedule.

Hope they flip soon for you. With my OG, it looked like yours, I skipped scoping for 2 days and next I knew about 25% were amber. Happened quick when they went @ 11wks.
Thanks Smoke! I’ll keep my eye on those trichomes now that I’m in week 11 too. I’m a little surprised that they’re going so long. I plan to hit them hard with UVB this next week.

Day 14 of the seedlings....growing amazingly fast in coco. Just up-potted on plant when I was concerned about roots coming out of the bottom. I decided I can afford to wait a few more days before up potting the other 3. Topped two of the plants above the 2nd node for 4 main colas. This approach worked so well with my current grow that I’m repeating this process.

One seedling is now in the grow tent. The rest are still under the fluorescent light.

Strain....Original Glue with 7-9 week flowering period (yeah, right)
Day number 124 since germination
Week 11 since flipping to 12/12

Getting close....I feel like the trichomes are getting clearer each time I check. LOL.

Would you harvest??
