DO stays in the water/nutrient solution for X time, depending on water temp: cooler temps keeps it in longer. Im sure there is a chart somewhere. I guestimate 1-3 hours, meaning the roots don't need constant DO injections, but neither do the roots need a rest from the air stone bubbles agitationwaterfalls are far superior to airstones for providing DO.
Here's one of the ideas I used successfully,. I did add a small netpot size hole to the plant tote lids so that air could come in during drain cycles. I needed to insert coco fiber into the netpots to prevent mosquitoes from entering. The power cord holes in the sides of the cooler allowed for some inflow of air, though probably not enough. The pesky blood suckers might have gotten in there as well
