White supremacists are flying in from out of state in an attempt to intimidate the people of this liberal city.

Having peaceful protests against nazis is fine and all but I appreciate that there are people willing to sacrifice their own personal safety to violently confront and face down neo nazis. If Hitler andhis brown shirts had faced violent and overwhelming opposition, things might have gone differently

Oh, yes. You are 100% correct. However, I was taught to respect my elders. (I'm in my 50's and secure enough to not give a shit what ANYONE says to me, or about me....) My respect, is something ANY person older than me gets. It is theirs to lose.... Prior military service, and how I was raised; would explain that. Complaints? Anyone???

I will point out right now that you haven't been there yourself. So I question how you can so definitely say the counter demonstration didn't stand up to racist people and bigotry. I WAS there and we shut down the out of town fascists in 30 minutes. They gave up when they saw how many of us showed up and left walking away, hurried out of town by the police. If that is not standing against fascists and bigots then I ask you what do you expect? What are you imagining when you said: Yes, people HAVE TO stand up against racist people and bigotry. That is not what is happening in Portland. What is your standard for "standing up against racist people and bigotry"?

This is so huge. I've been in this discussion before in a different forum. I totally feel that the respect is there-right there- for a person to lose. A younger person had to earn it, by treating an elder correctly. An older person gets it, until they lose it. Simple.
