Light change :-)

You would need a lot more LED to cover the HPS area, I thought that one was obvious....;-)
So you have to fork out and buy more LEDs to cover an area that one 1000w hps would? That'd take a very long time to recoupe the slight power saving you would get from purchasing multiple LEDs as opposed to one 1000w hps imo.

Yeah, that's it, small space LED makes sense but large area HID all the way
Yes i have heard that LEDs are better for smaller grows? Something to do with wave length saturation? Where as hps is better for larger grows as the wave lengths scatter more....?
And im not against LEDs. I think they will be the light of the future! But i just cant justify rushing out and spending all that $ to change over to LEDs when theirs no real gain........ yet.

With LED you can only get limited area coverage due to the nature of the straight light from the diods but cost less eleccy per M2 although the initial purchase cost is pricy, I got mine on ebay so a lot cheaper than new, i like the near non existent ligh pollution and way less heat and no bulb changes every 4-5 grows.

In my situation, having less heat would be great! I have 4 600w hps in flower room so had to get cool tubes to keep the heat down! As youd know, cooltubes arent the most efficient way for the light to penetrate through to the plants! So being able to remove the cooltubes would be a plus in itself i think. I consistantly pull over a pound per 600w, in a 1m2 - 1.1m2 floor space. If we ignore the upfront cost of the LEDs themselves, do you think this would be achievable with the same wall draw wattage with LEDs budman? Basically a gram a watt minimum?

One of the biggest advantages of LED lighting is the ability to spread out the light source, thereby gaining even more efficiency. What would be the point in giving that up?
I thought with LEDs they didnt cover such a large area but penetrate further into the canopy as the wave lengths are more direct or some shit? Also thought this to be the reason the lower buds are generally more dense than with HIDs?

Light pollution? Da fuk?
Lol
I've grown with T12, T8, T5, CFL, 400, 600,1000W HPS, 600, 1000W MH, 315, 860W CMH...
So I've been around the lighting block. I've grown with lots of different LED lights, too.

High quality LED isn't magic, it just makes frosty nugs with less Watts.
In your experience ttystikk, did you notice any yield difference with LEDs and HIDs??

My folks just retired in Canada, in eastern BC. One of these days I'm going to go visit and it would be cool to swing by your place and visit.

Ed Rosenthal had his gig and hydro wasn't really his thing. That doesn't mean hydro isn't good growing tech.

I can definitely help out with DWC tips, I've had plenty of practice.

If you want honest advice about where to get LED lights and parts, PM me.

I'm getting to be an old fart too. Or maybe it's old shart...
Eastern BC is about a 15 hour drive from my place. Find Edmonton then look up, wayyyy up and about 6 hours drive north from there is my place. :) I'm thinking of moving down that way myself in the next year or so. Got to find out how the wife's liver thing goes. I was going to sell the farm, give her half and take off on my own but not going to run out if it goes bad for her. Either move to the Kootenays or even better Campbell River on Vancouver Island where I should have gone in '01 when we moved here. I would have been so much happier there for sure and by now had lots of real buddies that were into pot. Basically a hermit here.

I'm good on DWC with about 50 grows under my belt but there's always something new to learn about anything and it will be a while before I could have some spare coin to get into LEDs, I have a little over 50G sitting in a TFSA that I'm not supposed to touch until mom dies in case she needs it. She'll be 92 in August and still going strong so it's a race to see who goes first. :D

I was born in Edson, west of Edmonton on the CN line.
