Repirations for slavery

The average American thinks George Washington chopped down a cherry tree
Yeah, well...I mean, studying the past isn't everyone's thing. I think the same thing could probably be said about many average citizens in any country when it comes to history. Go ask the average Brazilian what they can tell you about their history. lol!

Speaking of Brazil....It's really different how the descendants of the African slaves who were shipped to Brazil by the Portuguese managed to ultimately assimilate themselves into a very racially-integrated society after their slavery era ended. If you ever go to Brazil the black and white thing isn't nearly as big of an issue there. Instead, they segregate themselves according to "class"...all colors of poor people....all colors of middle class people...all colors of rich people. Of course there is racism, too, but it's really not as noticeable, because they haven't segregated themselves by skin color. And, by the way, in Brazil, when you refer to someone as a negro, it's not taken as an insult. If you refer to someone as "black" then it IS an insult. Go figure!

Well said (snicker)

You already said you don't know anything about history. Why are you still here?

Don't kill the messenger. I deal in facts. Argue with the facts not me. If I'm wrong, show me where I'm wrong. I'm a man that can admit error.
According to their torah non-jews are not human but beast, created to serve the chosen jew day and night. With a faith like that it is only natural that you would find them at the very center of the slave trade. Interesting read that ”wall of text”, appreciate you sharing it.

A heretic is not descriptive of a non believer per se but of a professed christian whose religious views are contradictory to the bible. I know about the koran and what it says, the yezidi women who were just recently liberated from the islamic state have shared horrible stories as have the soldiers who liberated them.

it doesn't matter....history has no meaning to some people.
from the early 1500s Europeans had been slaving as an industry. by 1560, the Caribbean and the coast of South America was full of European slaves... working for Europeans...
so that whole "America started slavery in 1619" thing is bullshit. there were already slaves in the "Americas" well before 1619, and they weren't brought by or owned by Americans.

this in no way absolves our ancestors of any guilt, but i like to be damned for facts, and not assumptions...and it just abrogates those peoples existence...slavery didn't exist until 1619...those people didn't exist till 1619...so their suffering is inconsequential....at least inconsequential to people who don't bother to learn the truth...

Although the British did get into the African salve trade pretty heavily, it still paled in comparison to the Irish slave trade, which went on for far longer. Most of that trade was to Briton itself.

Up to six in ten articles on Wikipedia contain inaccuracies, according to new research.

The point is valid. I used to know the numbers, but I'm old and have CRS, so I googled to make my point. If you guys are talking about things that I know about, I will share what I know.

The African Slave trade was all about sugar. It started and ended with sugar. Brazil was a bottomless pit that slaves were thrown down. They died really fast due to tropical diseases, so had to be replaced. Europeans had got the sweet tooth, and this need for labor to work the cane fields was what fueled the triangle trade. It was sugar in Europeans' tea.

The big three crops that needed labor here was rice, tobacco and later cotton. Although there was some fever deaths in rice workers, it was a small industry anyway, and there were almost no environmental deaths in the tobacco or cotton industry. For the most part, slaves that went to North America lived and procreated, so there wasn't the acute labor shortage as in the tropics.

Maybe should add Caligula, Nero and Adolph Hitler to that list.

Says in the bible that women accused of infidelity should be stoned to death. Do you believe that too?
