No, he isn't. In fact, of all 13 works of fiction he's written and sold on Amazon for years, he has a combined 5,644 reviews.
So, not a great many people buy his shit and those select few that do tend to keep it a secret. I can't say I blame them. I wouldn't be caught dead reading that complete bullshit.
In contrast to that, Delia Owens' book 'Where the crawdads sing' that was just released in August and is actually on Amazon's best seller list has nearly 9,000 reviews all by itself.
He's not nearly as popular as you wish he was.

that is what i would support reparation for...to fix the shit that is still wrong with our society, and there is plenty to fix.
we CANNOT fix the past, once done, never undone...but we can fix today, and tomorrow...and should.
kids should all get the same education, and health care. employs should all get the same base pay for the same job. i understand how merit raises work, but how many merit raises are actually merited? how is it measured? how do you quantify merit?
what you do with your life is your choice, but everyone should get the same preparations, and the same chances...level the playing field, and see who does well when they aren't at a huge disadvantage to begin with...

There is a culture shift going on and we are trying to figure it out. Gilliam is right to mourn what has been lost with the shift but there was also a lot wrong about those times too. He is probably right in that Monty Python's Flying Circus wouldn't fly today. Still, there was a genius in that group and I'm sure they would have managed to make their mark some other way in today's world.
Old men have to let go of the past. It wasn't all that great. But there were great works.

I'm not that familiar with them. I had to pull up a wikipedia page on them. Which is pretty ignorant of me given that they were given the distinction of being rated one of the thirty best comedy acts of all time. They had a long run too. Except for a hiatus when Republicans stifled our culture.
But I will say that genius will find it's way today when given the chance. I think that's what #me too and emphasis on encouraging diversity is all about. It's about giving opportunity to MORE people.
There is merit in arguments by some that some people take it too far. Like I said, there is a cultural shift going on and we are trying to figure it out. A lot of the over-reactions in the PC movement comes from sensitivity about truly obnoxious shit produced the white male dominated culture.

I'm pretty sure that one wouldn't fly today too. No loss there.
