DIY with Quantum Boards

HLG QB288 V2s in 3000k assembled by GrowersLights.
Haven’t run a cycle under them, but I bought them for my flowering space and swapped my Vero 29C COB kit out to the Veg/Clone closet. There’s a Kratom plant for reference. I’ve got High expectations. This much light is mean more or less for a 3x3-4x4. I have it in roughly a 4x2 area.

I've contemplated growing my own kratom. Haven't heard of people having much success though... Good luck!

I mean how could it have been designed any better? I feel like one must have the most calculated, fine-tuned brain, in order to produce a product as stunning as this gem. You know what, I think I just realized I'm in way over my head here. If we've got fixtures like the 150WX4 on the market at such low price points, I think I need to reconsider whether or not my operation is even viable anymore. @nfhiggs I think you just put me out of business with that design bro. I don't think my stuff is going to be able to compete. I wish you would explain how you managed to come up with that so that I could learn from your superior knowledge and ways.

Yes, there is a point to it. This is me trying to learn about this design which I'm starting to think might trump what we've got going on over here. I'm probably going to need to make a lot of improvements, so hopefully I get a detailed explanation.

I have provided this thread with quite a bit of useful information actually, which could have sparked some great discussion. The problem is, you all decided to, instead of respond to my perfectly sensible posts, admit that you have no idea what I’m talking about (which I find strange, since you’re active on a cannabis cultivation forum and are growing with LED tech…), and refuse to acknowledge any of the very real things I’ve shared with you all here regarding this topic, or even try to research the topic to a point where you could formulate a proper response, rather than troll me while you claim I’m the troll. I’ll give you a run down, so that you can remember everything you chose to ignore, when you could have just spent a bit of time researching before instantly trolling me/cursing me/etc.

1000w HPS @ 22" is nearly 1000 PPFD in a 4'x4' reflective space.

So with no uniformity improvements, and 37% lower PPFD, please do explain to me what type of magic this unit is working. Or refuse to listen to science and data because you already spent your money...

Explanation for why PPF is not the only variable involved in assessing efficiency, and that a properly designed fixture will outperform an improperly designed fixture with more efficient diodes.

Response to scientific claim that 1200 μmol m(-2)s(-1) (PPFD) is “overkill”
Noting the difference in variance between diode efficiency on the market and total efficiency of the efficacy of a fixture based on its distribution of photon output on the market.

Numbers are important, much morose than you guys seem capable of understanding. Even when you grow, you need to collect the ‘numbers’ – but you guys don’t, lol. You just grow plants, take pictures of them, weigh the bud at the end, and then boom you think you’ve conducted a scientific experiment. Lol.

Why do you think efficiency is only related to PPF? You don’t think a fixture’s PPFD score is relevant to the overall ‘efficiency’ of its efficacy? You can put these fixtures in a sphere and note the total photon output relative to its power draw all you want, that metric isn’t the most important by a long shot. I will say it again, designing lighting systems is about distributing photon output. Hence the ‘D’ in PPFD. The efficiency of the available diodes on the market has nowhere near the variance that the efficiency of distributing photon output has in the market today.

I’d consider switching to a fixture with a 37% lower PPFD score to be a “wasteful practice” – but that’s just me.

They are expensive, for what they are. That’s why their price got beat.

CAGR statistics regarding COB and the LED Grow Market

Horticulture operations isn't even cited as a contributing factor to that figure. Automotive lighting, home lighting, corporate building lighting, etc. What's the CAGR of 'quantum boards'? COBs have so many more resources allocated to the development of them. They will become exponentially cheaper and more efficient in the near future.

I'm sorry if you fell for the bullshit. HLG's products will still grow great cannabis. They just aren't really at the caliber you guys think they are, and their future is becoming increasingly dim.

Maybe someone should tell Samsung HLG is faking a partnership with them based on a simple agreement to produce some of their products for them, which are assembled in China.

Bringing awareness to the hypocrisy found within HLG supporters

Is that not HLG proclaiming to be more deeply involved with a large company like Samsung than they really are? Trying to generate hype with Samsung's name by making rashly exaggerated statements Samsung never endorsed. Their relationship is this: Samsung manufactures some of their products in China for them, and HLG sells them under their trademarked name. And all of you are complaining about Chinese companies selling the same shit...

So there it is. Took me about 15 minutes to throw that post together, so I hope you can get something out of it this time. I know many of you have said you have no clue what I've been going on about, but I think if you try really hard, you will be able to make sense out of this content. Its really not all that difficult to comprehend, and I think you might learn something from it (especially if you truly have no clue what I'm talking about).

And if you don't want to respond to any of this stuff, just move on with your life. Its fine, I don't care if you're not passionate about this like I am. I don't care if you aren't dedicated to figuring out how all of this works. You want me to leave the thread, but you hurl insults and disrespect my way every time I'm about to be on my way out. How does that make any sense?

I've got nothing more for this thread. Tomorrow I'll be emailing Samsung corporate with my findings on the validity of HLG's partnership with them, and to inform them of the current status of the 'Quantum Board' market in regards to respected Chinese vendors pushing the same products for half the price. My intent in coming to this thread, was to kill the hype of a sham company I do not support, due to their shady business practices, and blatant lies to the community. I found my passion on these boards, and I don't appreciate assholes like the guys running HLG coming in here and conning you guys into thinking you're purchasing next gen tech, when in reality its knock off Chinese bullshit that pre-existed HLG, and the 'designs' HLG developed incorporating this technology are nonsensical, which is why they produce such lack luster results as depicted and showcased above.

I'm sorry to anyone who paid full price for a QB and thought they were getting a true 1000w replacement. Very soon, real 1000w replacements are coming, at an affordable price point. People are going to do side-by-sides against HLG with these fixtures, and I believe that is when HLG will become the new Blurple, while Blurple finds its way out the door.

I think they're going to learn there was nothing strategic about this 'partnership' at all. Quite the opposite, actually. This could end a bit worse for HLG than I think many on this thread are capable of realizing.

1200 is probably the uppermost limit. After that, metabolism slows down and around 1500, it can start to kill plants and cause tissue breakdown. 1200 is overkill. 900-1100. Even 800 is alright.

It's been a while since I dug into it, but last I read, peeps were growing trees, but getting to a successful harvest was another matter? But you've inspired me to do some googling. If I could be self-sufficient when it comes to kratom, then my main meds would be covered and the only thing I'd still be buying would be kava.
