"MichiganMedGrower; "Well I posted elsewhere about my rear quick release failing on my new salsa timberjack causing me to break my scapula."
Dude... you just sent a chill straight down my spine. It was back in 2000 and I had just gotten myself a brand spankin' new Specialized FSR XC(that was a bad-ass year!). I was new to the bike and it had the typical red Manitou triple air fork and that dual air Fox rear shock with that little red lever lock-out on it. Well in all honesty I didn't know my head from my ass how to dial-in nor calibrate the fork nor the rear shock nor with each other. My buddy Steve and I were setting out to ride this fire trail in the hills not far from Price Canyon Road behind Pismo Beach and I aired-up the fork, aired-up the rear shock, I rode up and down the street curb a few times. It felt good so I went for it.
Well we're rolling along this ridge line with a steep drop off on the right and I misjudged this rut. See, before I proceed, in hind sight I know exactly what I did that day and it was an honest rookie mistake. I had the perfect pressurization front and rear that when I approached that rut and went to pull-up the front end to lip over it the fork dumped and the rear literally propelled me forward and what lie within my fate was a perfect storm.
Clipped-in with the weight of the bike and my body I flipped head first straight into the depth of that four foot rut thus delivering a left compound clavicle that broke through my back, two twisted disks in my neck, multiple broken ribs... and a fractured scapula. The contusion ran from my left shoulder straight down my left side all the way to my left knee. Have you ever seen that orangutan with the rainbow colored ass? That was my bruise.
I feel you my brother. God speed. May you heal quickly and never look back.
