In preparation for summer riding swapped on the dirt t tread and hit some of the local trails. What blast it felt like riding with suction cups on.

The front tread bites in hard with a sharp squared outer edge

The rears textured surface rides smooth and is good for dry summer conditions

Now the real fun begins !

I've been looking into getting a mountain bike. I have been a BMX rider for about 8 years now, dominately street riding but can tear shit up at a park when the weather suits. I've taken my Custom Sunday bmx down to some tracks and man...it's not suited for it one bit ahaha. So much fun though, very very deadly.

View attachment 3812921 I love mountain biking, I ride 75-100 miles a week, twice a week I go to state land recreation area to ride a 14 mile loop. I just got this bike this spring, its nothing special, just an entry level bike. Only thing I've upgraded are the bar, stem and pedals, I'm going to get a new seat and post and possibly rims over this winter.

Are you going to get a seat stem with a spring? New pedals are almost always a must. Great way to exercise. Bikes can make you feel like a kid again.

I liken the incident to a wake up call it had that effect I had thought my head was split open and not just shaken or was it stirred..
I usually ride on the road so use road tread but also have a set of Mavic Minotaur xc race treads that are light grippy and old school.

Ive been riding it for 17 years
I have a relative who is a heavy duty rider. She has heard too many stories of people falling off and hitting their head. In one case a death. It is amazing how many off us survived as kids with no helmets. I guess we were like cats when we rode bikes as kids.

Feeling like a kid is the best feature. I’m 49 and suffering from long term illnesses but I managed to beat Mrs. mmg’s 25 year old brother up the long hill at a local track this summer.

And he was on a 29er cross country bike with better gearing. My trail bike is better downhill but it could use a lower gear sometimes.

Such great fun. We have skill and flow parks about an hour away I want to ride in the spring.

In between river kayaking out other activity out here in the forest.

Glad this thread got revived.

Some pics of my new salsa timberjack while exploring what the new trail geometry and 27.5 plus 2.8” tires can do. New air fork too.

The answer is they can do a lot and a lot more comfortably.

I bought an old Gary fisher marlin about 6 years ago when I was found to have high blood pressure like my family tends too. I upgraded it some and rode the hell out of it and this Salsa is my first new bike since childhood.

I chose riding this instead of meds. They made me feel terrible. Pressure close to normal now. And 40 lbs lost.

Overgrown dead end dirt road. Didn’t know it would dead end.

Cross country running park nearby. Can’t see the trail at the moment but it is pretty awesome. Rolling hills and turns with a few steep and long climbs and downhill fun. I help maintain the trails for the high school kids and we are allowed to ride.

Thats so awesome MMG! those trails looks soft and forgiving, not like the trails out here full of holes, rocks and lots of mud..
there are so many killer mountain bike trails in my area. In particular Oakridge Oregon.its nice to hear at 49 ,MichiganMedGrower, you are able to endure the brutal physical demands of mountain biking.
Last summer, at mount ST Helens National park , while we were hiking I met some mountain bikers who were doing the Rim Trail. They had super cool bikes with wide wide tires made to handle that volcanic terrain. So cool! one of the riders was this super fit older women in her 50's riding with her daughter.. very bad ass.mad respect.

Thanks. I do suffer from congenital illness but ever since I lived in the ski area in Colorado I try to play advanced much as I can. I miss the mountains.
