I worked at Cambria Bicycle Outfitter from 1999-2003 and while there I built this from the bottom up! I originally had a Marzocchi Marathon S on the front but I blew that sucker bombing off my buddies front deck in Pismo. He later gave me this fully rebuilt White Brother's AT-4 as a tide over. Cycle Monkey re-did the internals and this thing's just bad-ass!
So this is a Sanvik TST Titanium frame(ex-Boeing welder out of the northwest)
Chris King headset
Race Face cranks and bottom bracket
XTR drive train
Easton carbon fiber bars, seat post
Easton Magnesium stem
Avid Ti v-brakes
I built the wheels with Sun Rhyno Lite rims on XT hubs(because my cost was F'n great!)
WTB Ti saddle and Juliana grips and Egg Beater pedals
It's still pretty damn sweet for being a 2002 bike. It's held it's own more than my van has! Actually, it's worth more than my Aerostar to this day. Lololol! But what I really like about it is that having built such solid wheels(as opposed to the Mavic 517's that were on everything at the time), you really get full function out of the frame with more solid wheels. I kind of alternate between the Easton carbon bar and an Easton aluminum bar. I think I like the solidity of the aluminum better.

I think my total out of pocket cost was like $840 or something but if you were to put it at or near retail at the time(especially with the Marzocchi Marathon S on there) it would've been in the vicinity of $2400.

Nice! I keep coming up in that 2500 neighborhood when I price out a Dream build.
But I have gotten older so I don’t really need quite so much bike anymore.
I do want to rent a full suss at keystone mountain. I have a good friend still living at copper mountain. I have never done lift served riding. And I really want to. I spent a decade snowboarding all over Colorado.

Funny you say that... I'm getting older too. Hehehe! I used to go BIG but I just don't have-to anymore.
I lived in Durango(circa 1993-94) and we used to ride Purgatory(which I think has a different name now). That place was a hoot! I did have a full suspension when I lived there. I lived on the north side of town behind City Market along the river frontage road. The women in that town will out-hike you; out-bike you; out-climb you; kayaka-you; they will out drink you and THEN... they will laugh at you! Or so was my experience.
I just got back from northern New Mexico January 16th. Spent two months just outside of Santa Fe. The elevation didn't get me as bad this time. See, I live at 38 feet above sea-level. Lolol! So when a 737 drops you off at 5300 feet and then you drive to 7200 feet and you stay there it kinda kicks your ass. Well at least it does mine anyway. The Jemez mountains have some pretty killer rides too!

I had your problem when I used to wrench on bikes. Think I maxed out at 18, between bmx, road, mtn, trials, fuck I even had a lowrider at one point
Last year got down to 2 bikes by trading my 04 specialized fsr elite for a set of through axle lowers for my float rlc on my custom 29r ybb I got about 10 years ago and according to my wife will be the last bike I own. My other is a Cannondale road bike built on one of their NBA frames (a relic from when they sponsored shaquiel oniel) its like an oversized 68cm semi custom frame too. Being 6'8" from a distance my 29er looks like an average height persons 26er.

I have a set of carbon wheels with Hope Hubs from a (cue the hissing) Chinese company. LightBicycle will build custom set of wheels. That's all they build.

I bought a Scott 780 Aspect which is pretty entry level with V pull brakes but it is aluminum. Good enough for me for now.

Well I posted elsewhere about my rear quick release failing on my new salsa timberjack causing me to break my scapula. I forgot about this thread then.
It’s been 2 months and the surgeon released me for physical therapy this week. Problem is my new bike is now evidence for the lawyers and I would have to ride my old worn out 2004 Gary fisher.
Rather than replace cables and a worn out seat post I bought a 2017 GT Zaskar Elite. Great deal at Jenson.
I had decided to go with the new 27.5” plus wheels for my new salsa. And new slacker geometry with short chainstays and low botttom bracket.
Worked great. I had just gone tubeless and mounted a set of top of the line Maxxis recons. Lightened the bike right up.
But the plus bike was really smooth and a little slow steering. It was better with the new tires but it seems the new bikes take the feel out of the trail a lot. Compared to my old cross country fisher especially. It also had the new 1x11 gears. Which have quite a jump between a few gears and when I ride on the street I was spinning out or over geared a lot. Or long flat trails and dirt roads.
So I went with a cross country spec 29er with an SLX/XT 2x11 and a slightly steeper but still modern geometry.
It’s a bright bitch. What can I say. I like bright colored bikes.
Not mine just a photo. Mine is in a box and will be here next week. Also I think this one is a medium and I got a small. The top tube will likely go straight down and continue with the rear triangle like the salsa. Not that much different. More triangular looking.
Anybody riding?
