Shake-Up at Democratic National Committee, Longtime Officials Ousted

The removal and demotion of a handful of veteran operatives stood out, as did what critics charge is the over-representation of Clinton-backed members on the Rules and Bylaws Committee, which helps set the terms for the party's presidential primary, though other Sanders and Ellison backers remain represented.

Those who have been pushed out include:

Ray Buckley, the New Hampshire Democratic chairman and longtime DNC official who ran against Perez for chair before backing Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn. Buckley lost his spots on the Executive Committee and DNC Rules Committee.

James Zogby, the president of the Arab American Institute and prominent Sanders backer, is no longer co-chair of the Resolutions Committee and is off the Executive Committee, a spot he has held since 2001.

Alice Germond, the party’s longtime former secretary and a vocal Ellison backer, who was removed from her at-large appointment to the DNC.

Barbra Casbar Siperstein, who supported Ellison and Buckley, was tossed from the Executive Committee.

The moves exposed a rift in the partnership between Perez and his deputy chair, Ellison, who have publicly broadcast their "bromance" since Perez tapped Ellison for the post in a show of unity after their hard-fought race this year for the party's chairmanship.

Guess who they put on the Rules Committee?

Surely just a coincidence

Closing ranks is what this is called.

There really isn't much point in continuing to expect anything from the Democratic Party other than token resistance to the right wing.

Their strategy is as Dick Durban said; 'move to the center (RIGHT)'.

This adds credence to my suspicion that the Democratic Party has three jobs under the current political regime;
  1. 'oppose' whatever the Republican Party proposes, in order to legitimize the process as 'democracy'. They get to win on social issues but they don't get to affect any significant economic policy, no matter how egregious the Republicans behave.
  2. Act decisively to thwart and destroy any potential threats from their Left, thereby ensuring that they are the only option remaining for anyone who wants to see liberal, Progressive or leftist policies discussed, let along enacted.
  3. Legitimize neoliberal policies of corporate freedom from regulation, taxes or responsibility to employees, markets or the country all while shoveling money at corporate subsidies and defense spending- and then turn around and impose austerity on the 90+% of the rest of Americans under the guise of 'looming insolvency'.
Of the three, their most important mission by far is to kill any political movement to the Left of their corporate vetted and approved policy positions.

Seen from this perspective, the DNC's moves make perfect sense.

Now it's up to the various Left leaning and Progressive Movements in America to come together and present a united front and a viable option for the increasing number of Americans who are fed up with being fed the establishment's version of 'liberal'.

It's now up to left leaning liberals and progressives to come together and defeat Republicans. Are you really going to fight Democrats when Republicans are the reason many of the initiatives you endorse are in limbo?

Interesting tunnel vision you have against Democrats.

A more accurate view would be supporting Republican hasn't worked for 40 years.
And yet there have been 2 eight year Democratic administrations during that time, yet policy and execution kept moving to the right.

You can be fooled if you like. I'm just looking at the facts.

I have no idea what you just said. What is a 2 right year Democratic administration?

You talk as if Democrats were unopposed all this time. Did you know that every Democratic Senator supported Bernie's bill to repeal the Citizen's United decision and it was defeated by Republicans? You have this tunnel vision that Democrats are the reason we still have the utterly corrupt campaign finance system. It's entirely due to Republicans. Same with Universal Access to Healthcare.

None of the initiatives you support can go forward if Republicans are in control of Congress, much less the Presidency.

They should just start a new party based on the popularity of Bernard.

Why didn't Democratic leadership invoke the nuclear option to avoid the 60 vote threshold? They had the votes to do that
