I would initially read everything you can get your hands on. Start with basic biology/botany, then progress to genetics and plant breeding. I would also educate myself on micropropagation theory and techniques. You don't have to necessarily attend a university for this, just purchase the textbooks and become auto didactic.
You could travel to south africa, purchase a few pounds of durban seeds, select relatively fast flowering plants without a tendency for hermaphroditism, that retain the terp profile of its parental line.
Would be alot of work, but if you could produce a good stable line of this one cultivar alone, you would have tons of customers. Hell, you could get the seeds and grow while educating yourself in the field of plant breeding.
