I'm from Europe also and decided to go led route. Mostly because of summer heat since I don't use ac. I replaced 400w hps for 5 cxb 3590 cobs at 50w. Ordered my parts from alibaba seller KingBrite (they have all sorts of Cree, Vero and Citizen). Good prices and superb customer service and arrived in 4 days iirc.
For bigger replacements and keeping costs downb citizen lights seem to be most bang for your buck.

to get ~700ppfd for good efficiency, you need about 15 PARW/sq ft or about 165 parW/meter
to do that with 1 LED youre probably at 40% system efficiency so youd need a single 420W cob/meter
if you put 4 cobs per square meter you can get 50% system efficiency and youd need ~340W (4 85W cobs)
for 100 sq meters thats 34KW (not considering AC load, likely substantial).
assuming if you installed solar panels and got an average of 6 hours per day of sun (generous) and had 10% battery losses, that would be a 75KW solar array
average cost of solar array installed in US is ~$3/W, so $200-$250K
the cob array can be done for ~$1/Watt if you DIY or $1.50/Watt to buy it plug and play so $34K-50K
your 10x10m should yield about 120 lb or 55 kg every 3 mos including 4 wks of veg so you do the math from there
following the rule of thumb of cutting the current in half increases system efficiency by 10%, if you spent an extra $20-25K to double up the chips on your cob rig to get 55% system efficiency, youd reduce your solar array to 68KW which would save you $21K in solar array cost

I had quad 600's running over 2x 4x8's.. Vented hoods and yeah, its still hot and needed AC.
Sold em. Switched to luminus cxm22 x4 on hlg-185a-1200's. Simple aluminum rail build, active cooling was a bit more wiring, but cheapest option and best cooling dynamic.. Figure $200 each or so.
I run eight of those over the tables now.
HPS was about 3200-3600watts with ac and blowers.. (TWO Full 20 amp breakers)
LED is running at about 2200watts.. NO MORE AC!
Yield and quality are both WAY UP. Much better environment to grow in. ROI on those lights was probable under 2 crops. No more bulb changes is nice.. No more hood cleaning.. Time and money saved all over the place.
Good point, but why run an 18/6 light cycle? The only reason that I can think of is that you are running autos, and that is the reason I won't plant them. Too much energy wasted on a sub-par plant. I use an 11 hours on/13 off cycle to save electricity, with no discernible affect on product.40 x 315 = 12,600w.
Average kWh in the US is 10¢ an hour. So, that's like 22 dollars a day for an 18/6 light cycle. Multiply that by 30, that's about $680 a month. 3-5 month cycles..

I use 11/13 or 10/14 for flower and either 20/4 or 24/0 for veg. I veg for two months. 2 plants = 12-16 ounces. Definitely not subpar. Well coverage is around 0,9m2 one kit cost for me ~350eur +aluminum frame.
Could get it lower when going Citizen/Vero, haven't done any reading about them but I guess for flowering citi 1825 seems to be the best and they are driven harder aswell or vero 29.
ThanksCheck out Growmau5's YouTube channel. He has a series of videos showing the steps needed to assemble a COB LED light that will match or beat HPS at less than 70% of the lighting wattage.
There's nothing hard in putting them together. First you need to make a choice in what brand cobs to get. I just reviewed Bloomingled page,one panel is 675 eur, I need two for one sq/m and I have room 10mx10m you do the math.. to expensive.. only if you can hook me up for somewhere for lower price.. Is there any cheaper cxb based panel.. Hey man if you are from Spain anythings possible haha..I have been growing with Cree cob CXB3070 ad for a while. I started to test this technology two years ago when was still unkown. After the first grow I realised that these cobs were even better than any other led or discharge lamp. I have a full grow room of 150 cxb diy. I use 450 cob watts/sqm and I yield 650 grams/sqm. Now I can smell the terpenes of my buds. I didn't had any heat problem anymore.
The problem is that diy needs a lot of knowledge, money and time (time is money). Now I'm using bloomingled panels because they are, in my opinion, the best cxb-based panel. It only uses meanwell drivers and cxb3070 top bin. The distribution of the light is perfect (this is soooo important). It is the same distribution I have been using at my flowering room (30cm between 50W cree cobs). Also I can control all the panels at once, so it's perfect.

Having a hard time grasping why you would go from DIY to essentially the same thing w/ a housing & pot dimmer for x4 the $? Especially when they're only 160w a piece. No offense, it's just rare that you see someone go from DIY cobs to the same thing in a housing manufactured. Dude, no offense but my time is too expensive. Growing is more profitable than doing DIY shits. I don't need a lot of watts of expensive LED fixtures, just a lot of CXB3070/CXB3590 for my grows. I don't care about any other LED color, 3000K is enough for me and my plants. Now I can start as many grows I want, yielding a loooot more than HPS... who cares about the initial cost? The panels get paid at first havest! It is ridicolous, this is weed bussiness.
