Stephen Hawking says mankind has 100 years left on Earth. Thanks, Steve.

To actually quantify the potential timeline of human extinction?

Seems very unscientific to me.
How the fuck would you know? You haven't bothered to actually knuckle down long enough to learn Jack shit, Stinkydigit.

'What a shitty, stupid fucking post' -Unclebuck

Yeah, it's your very own quote. Congratulations, you earned it!

Because we humans need to expand, explore and inhabit our solar system and beyond.

The Greatest Adventure awaits us. If we fail to rise to this challenge, we will surely die and be a forgotten footnote in the history of the universe.

While some might think that's best, I prefer to be more optimistic about humanity and our ability- and willingness- to go and see what's out there...
I will agree that exploring the solar system is very important I just don't think that another trip to the moon would be all that educational. There have been a few unmanned missions bringing tons of useless data back about the moon not to mention the daily satellite cam shots.
Why not focus on alternatives or saving earth with those resources?

I think you might find that the human race will never conquer space, sightly impossible for all sorts of reasons
Them artificially intelligent ones with a exoskeleton might

Agreed, the time for exploring the moon is more or less over. I believe the time has come for colonizing it and using it as a jumping off point for exploring and colonizing the interplanetary neighborhood.

If we could find a way to repurpose our defense industry to this task, I'd consider the zillions we spend on them money well spent, for a change!

There's plenty of room out there for everyone. No reason not to go, especially considering how fast we're running out of elbow room and raw materials down here on Earth.

I agree completely. The conspiracy people wonder why we haven't been back.. why? We been there. Why not use our resources to stretch further. Space is a truly unexplored territory. Personally I'd like to know what else is out there. There's no way we are the only planet in all of, well everything to support life

The physics of space travel make returning to the Moon to colonise and use it as our main base for interplanetary missions all but unavoidable. That's why so many are scratching their heads and wondering what's taking us so long.

The rich would be paying tourists. Those who would get to go would be the best qualified.

I don't know of any astronauts who were millionaires before they started their careers.

for any of the most brilliant physicists to figure, based on history and current knowledge of physics and astrophysics , the time of some catastrophe with an accuracy of between 1,000 and 10,000 years would not be uncanny.

say's who. it's not going to be just astronauts , at least not all scientists and engineers anymore.
edit
though there is real talk that the smart will become the rich in the near future.
