All cobs produce heat, 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit is normal range. If your area gets hotter than 80 to 85 you may need additional cooling. Otherwise inline fan for heat removal and a recirculating fan should do fine. The lower the amperage you run, the les heat you create that has to be removed with fans. example cobs run at 700mA run much cooler than cobs run at 1400mA and 2100mA are twice as hot as 1400mA. It is not l;inear, it is a function of efficiency, the higher the amperage the less efficient the light is created and the more heat is created.

good to know thanks.... I can't send you a link because I'm missing 1 like but can you give me advice on this 850watt bcblondes that Daniel posted... it's cheaper than timber lighting for 50watt difference.... might actually be worth it !

And 12 cobs in such a small panel is not very economical.. Especially for 1500$.. I built 2*8cob panels that will easily cover twice the space as the blondes led, for about 1350$.. And if i lower my panel under 24" in veg at 250w, the girls are stressed... Taco bell baby..
First of all, there's no point comparing what you can DIY something for and the price from a store. Secondly, if you add up the cost of 12 cxb cd bin in Canada plus the 3 drivers, enclosure, fans, wiring, pots etc I would bet you'd have a hard time building that light for the same price.
Your 8 cob light I'm assuming is running around 475 watts, which is not enough to cover a 4'x4' properly. So in reality, you can't cover twice the space that the BCBlondes light covers unless you're doing it half-assed. 850w in a 4'x4' will rock every square inch of that tent even with the light hung higher. You'd need both of your lights in a 4'x4' to compete with that BCBlondes 850w light.

How high would you recommend I would need to keep my lights from the plants ? for flowering with that 850w and veg with 300w ??!

Do these cobs produce a lot of heat ?! Do I need to have an AC ?
Vegas beat me to it but sums it up real well. Everyone is different. In Canada we get pretty severe temperature ranges even from one day to the next so it's all about getting used to your setup. Keep your temps as suggested and all will be good. Also, I wouldn't get too caught up on spectrum. 3000k or 3500k will both work great for the full plant cycle. Some prefer one over the other....but there isn't alot of difference in the results.

This is another area that varies between growers. You can dim your light and lower it or keep the power up and raise it higher. There are times like in winter where you might want to keep the light higher and have more power running through it just to keep your temperatures up. It's just your preference and relative to your setup. Young plants I like to keep it 24" to 36" away and just adjust the power to my liking. Flowering is more like 16" to 20". It seems like Indica's take the heat stress better than sativa's but it varies.

To be honest, I would go to a local hydro shop near you. I can get all that stuff just as cheap as online in my own town. It's nice supporting local shops too and they can provide you with great advice. It's also much easier to return that stuff if it fails. What part of the country are you in?

Montreal, I have plenty of stores around me, I looked online and it seemed to be cheaper than at my local hydro store

If you can find it cheaper online then go for it. I'm out west so I don't know what stores are available. Plenty of choice online though. Bustan is out east but I'm sure there are plenty of others. I order from a place out west if I order online just incase I have to return anything.

I don't mind getting messages at all. There are lots of guys who know far more than I do but I'll be glad to help if I can.

First of all i wont run crees, as there way over priced for what they are.. And i had 4 big girls in the last few weeks of flower in a 4*4 under a 1000w hps, and when i switched to 8 cobs, anything over 400w and they were stressed to shit.. I run the vero gen 7s and 375w finished them off beauty.. I understand this guy dosent want to build himself.. But man, there are way cheaper options out there..
Do you run one of those bc blonde lights? Just from the look of it, it would seem that there would be a huge hot spot in the center of the tent, and massive drop offs at the corners..
Cheers

I hear you. The light is 24"x24" so there's 12 inches to the wall of a tent. I imagine if it's 24" above the canopy it will easily be hitting the tent walls with pretty solid numbers. Since there are no cobs in the middle of the light it will negate that hot spot a bit too.
I don't run a BCBlondes light although I do live in the same city. I would also never spend the extra money on Cree cobs. I use Vero's also. My next build will probably be EB or Samsung strips because they are just simply cool and cost effective.
I looked at the Par Horta prices for something similar. He's using Vero cobs in a 900w light that's basically the same price as the BCBlondes 850w light with Cree cobs. Neither option is cheap that's for sure but the only alternative is buying outside the country or building your own.
Personally I'd want to buy the Timber 900w light, or even 600w because it's so simple and effective, nice spread. The prices after conversion and duty, fee's and taxes are a joke though.

Good to hear ! 1 more question... someone suggested mars LED panels.... what is your opinion on those vs Cob ?
Mars panels are cheap chinese lights. They will grow plants but the downside is that the components are cheap and are much more prone to failure. I would not even consider it when you compare the quality of meanwell drivers and top shelf cobs like cree, bridgelux or citizen. There are literally hundreds of guys in here that have built themselves a light with the meanwell and cree/vero/citi combo and you will rarely hear of any failures. If something goes wrong it's usually because the guy was high when he built it and crossed some wires somewhere!

I ordered my tent from them. The Fusion Hut. It had a few pinholes like even Gorilla tents have but it's pretty solid, especially for the money. I didn't recommend them because it's not my favorite site. I prefer ones with feedback on products on the site as well as very prompt replies to emails. Having said that, I would order from them again. I also bought a General Hydroponics Flora Series pack. It has everything you need to get started (for nutrients) and it's cheaper than anywhere else I've seen it.

Make sense ! Now if we put a side the price and location... if we compare that 900w vs the 850w what is the difference ? pros and cons for both ??
