The old man was a foreman at a large paper mill for many years, was hired within a year or so post-military service. We certainly didn't live like the Rockefellers (eight friggin kids!), but we were't poor and we never wanted for anything. Mom would buy things like canned tuna, soups, and pasta by the case, heh. Also, dad should be commended for essentially feeding HALF of the kids in our neighborhood - damned sponges!

Sadly, I was making more as a caretaker's helper (in adjusted dollars, obviously) 25-30 years ago than many fast food/retail workers earn now. :(

...and that's the problem with our country. Without the engine of a strong and financially stable middle class, the nation sputters and doesn't move forward.

man I remember growing up,, and almost everyones mom was a stay at home mom,, most dads had weekends off with thier kids,, we went boating and fishing,, moms had tupperware parties,, church on sunday , grandpa cooked steaks on the weekends,, home made ice cream, everyone i knew had a retirement plan, everyone had health insurance,,
the majority of men were union if they were in the trades,, there were apperenticeship programs,, remember those,, we used to train our younger people how to do techincal things,, and paid them a lower wage while they learned,,
Gosh I miss those days

My mother issued to leave us in our prams on the front porch. One time she forgot about my sister all afternoon. No problem. We used to leave first thing in the morning and come back for dinner. Our parents had no idea where we were. I can't imagine that now, as a parent.

So are there many older new growers? I've smoked since I was 15 but only became medical in the last 3 years and growing since April.

HaHa from another old SOB. I'm 57 and started drinking warm beer and smoking brown weed most of the time but occasionally old fashioned Acapulco Gold or Jamaican. Hash was pretty common as well. Boy did we get stoned. I'm pretty sure by today's standard the weed sucked but we did smoke a bunch.
That "power hitter" sure brought back memories. Also reminded me of doing shotguns. Along with the weed, Tango, Boonesfarm, Schlitz, coffee brandy, crossroads, black beauties, THC (whatever it really was?), Windows Pane, Blotter etcetera. It wasn't until a few years later that I found the opiates. I should have stuck with Quaaludes.

What sucks about Ludes is that you can't find them anymore.

Seeing as other non 50+ peeps are posting. I'll chime in too.

I'm 31. Recently busted my left knee. Even more recently had it repaired... This is the start of my (hopefully) many years growing.

First thus far successful plant is tiny. But, oh well. That just means more room for improvement.

I used to work in a couple foundries. And a meat works. Initially I smoked because I liked to get high. Now, I enjoy it for being able to get to sleep.

no shit huh,I remember me and my sis heading off to the lake on our bikes about a mile away and go swim for a few hours I was in the 3rd grade my sis in the 2nd, I don't think my parents ever thought twice about it although we both swam faster than fish.That would have been 1972
