Bill Clinton say's STFU to BLM

Good old Billy Clinton told a group of nasty BLM protesters to sit down, shut up and listen yesterday in Philly, after they constantly interrupted his speech at a campaign rally for his wife, Hillary.
“I like protesters, but the ones who won’t let you answer are afraid of the truth,”
He then went further, pointing to a protester in the crowd, Clinton charged, “She don’t want to hear any of that. You know what else she don’t want to hear? Because of that bill, ( the Violent Crime Control Act of 1994) we had a 25-year low in crime, a 33-year low in the murder rate, and — listen to this — because of that and the background-check law, we had a 46-year low in the deaths of people by gun violence.” The Violent Crime Control Act has been condemned by the Afro American community as a major cause of the vast increase in the prison population (tough shit in my opinion) and has disproportionately affected men of color. (tough shit again).
It was good to see that responce to the hecklers in the room, because sometimes it appears to me that the BLM movement is a little too eager to blame the white man, for ALL the hardships affecting the black community. They of course have a valid argument, but MOST of the killings of young black men, are by other young black men. BLM has to work on that, and not just focus on a handful of instances where it is actually a white person (cop usually) shooting a black man. They can't always pull out that racist card.

I'm curious as to why you're addressing the BLM protesters as "nasty"?

You say "tough shit" to the increased prison population when the overwhelming majority of the those incarcerated are serving time are for NON VIOLENT drug offenses. Study after study has repeatedly shown that drug use among the different races occur at basically the same rate. That being the case, how can you possibly explain why the majority of those arrested and convicted are African American when we comprise only 13% of the population? I find it interesting that he would take this stance now when he apologized for the exact same thing just a few of months ago.

Because they would not allow a dialogue, in any way, shape or form. All they did was scream and shout. Did you see the video? They wanted to have their voices heard, but you don't have to scream, at least to a President that did a hell of a lot to address serious problems in the black community. The Clinton's have had, and still do have overwhelming support among the Afro American communities, and for good reason. BLM is barking at the wrong tree, that's what I meant by being nasty. They should focus on where the real problems are, and it sure as shit ain't the Clintons.

Violent Crime Control Act of 1994 - Longer and more expansive incarceration.

Other than professor Bill who is clearly not objective- he's campaigning / lying hard - states HUGE reductions in crime and murder. Of course that's his current rhetoric. Other studies show little correlation between incarceration times and crime rates. 1 in 3 black men still go to jail. 1 in 6 Hispanics. 1 in 17 whites.

Quote: “I like protesters, but the ones who won’t let you answer are afraid of the truth,” That is complete bullshit. Complete bullshit.

When the fed comes to the states and says we'll give you more money for prisons, police, etc, the states gobbled that shit up, leading to a for-profit prison industry.

When will we learn you can't beat and punish people into compliance. The system is totally fucked for some. All men are not treated equal. All men certainly do not have the same chances. That is undiluted horseshit. The system is fucking broken, and these humans are what happens when inequality is in place for 150 years.

Your a man of color? I did not know that. Some people have been known to call me a Black Irishman. Have you ever heard of the expression? Anyway, I agree with your viewpoint, and President Clinton and Hillary do also, in hindsight they know now how disproportionate the law has become in the sense how it has seemingly targeted the black community, a community suffering from a shit educational system, because they never get what they need due the inequality in schools, and the rampant unemployment problem for the urban black man, WHO IN ORDER TO SURVIVE, ended up supplying what the people (a lot of white people) wanted, or needed.. Maybe that has something to do with the incarceration rate for young men of color, whom the system has DEFINITELY failed. I just say again, BLM should be going after the GOP, not the Democratic party, which in reality, is the only group that really gives a shit about them

But it was a democrat who signed this bill into law. The same democrat who executed a mentally ill black man so that he could appear to be tough on crime. Also, people love to talk about how awful the crack epidemic was at its peak (and it was fucked up), but hardly anyone will publicly acknowledge the role that both reagan, daddy bush, and the CIA played in bringing the cocaine into the United States in the first place.

That's essentially the same point I've been trying to make in another thread. Thanks for pointing that out. Its 100% spot on. BLM has no credibility becuse they don't respect free speech.

When Clinton was governor of Arkansas he was complicit in letting it be imported into his state.

Saying tough shit was a little strong, when talking about a black man doing 20 years for crack, when a white boy gets 1/4 the time for straight up cocaine, I'll admit, and I sort of apologize for it. But what I was trying to express was that if you want to play the game, there are consequences, and you should be willing to pay the dues, if you fuck up. I play that game everyday, I know I am taking a chance, and if I lose, that's what everyone, me included will say tough shit, I made a choice to be a criminal, even if I think the laws are bullshit, but's that's the world that I live in. My choice.

Yup, you got that right about letting drugs enter the black communities, whereas the white neighborhoods had cops at the gates, and just would allow them (suburban kids) to drive into the black communities to score. I was pulled over once leaving the Bronx, with an 1/8 of blow and 4-50's of dope in my glove box, the cop shined his flash light in my eyes, asked me what I was doing in that area, "you buying?" I said nope, my girlfriend smiled (with a six of Heineken between her legs, which he saw), he looked into my Irish eyes(I wasn't high yet) and said to me "get the fuck out of here) I'm sure as shit if I was black, I'd be out of the car, lying on the ground cuffed while they ripped the car apart. That was America in the 60's, 70's, 80's,90's, and the same shit is going on today. That I will bet on.

Do you sell marijuana? Because where I live in CT, for growing 26 plants and selling around 2 lb's a month within 1000 yards of a school, I am facing 20 years and loss of my home. That's what I mean, but it is my choice.

Ah. I understand now. No I don't sell, but to use your example, it's easier for you to up and relocate if you chose to. The dynamics of minority poverty don't accommodate that choice as well as for you, a white man.

On the surface, I do not disagree with what you're saying. There should be consequences for bad behavior. But why shouldn't those consequences be evenly applied? You talk about black men doing 20 years for crack, hell there are black men doing 20 years for weed. You have to be willing to look beyond the length of the sentences, and look at what the charges themselves are doing to the black community. Even the ones not serving ridiculous sentences are being tagged as "felons". We all know that with that label next to your name, combined with your skin color (with few exceptions) virtually ends any shot that you may have had at being a truly "productive" citizen in American society. That stigma is just too difficult for most black people to overcome. You can no longer vote, you can't get public housing, it disqualifies you from the overwhelming majority of employment (particularly gainful employment), some states won't even allow you to get a driver's license. It boils down to nothing more than legal discrimination.
