My first CXB 3590 run...

So are you running separate ac cords to each driver? if so, what potentiometer and resister are you using? Is this an exact layout from growmas

pumice was a bitch to get & then it's expensive as hell
But I* found a product that is made 100% outta the stuff is & is wildly avalable
@ feed stores , anywhere they keep horse & live stock using this stuff
it's called
"Dry Stall " comes in 40 lbs bags fer $9.oo at my feed store iirc last time i got
100% pumice no additives
it's a fine version which actually the best for coco
the charcaol I crush hardwood charcoal i get from Whole foods
throw a old rug over the bag & whack the fuck outta it with a hammer ,maul ,
big chunks are fine as the idea is a host for grems all fines & dust are good too
both these thing will balance/buffer the coco
i use 15 % of each per volumes of coco
i add diaomatios earth , osstyer shell flour , rock flour
dicomposed seaweed ( the left-overs of a seaweed extrac )
I use this both indoors & greenhouse

I actually built this light before I saw the Growmou5e videos. Yes I have each driver run to 4 cobs with their own power cord and pot. I don't have a resister in line with the pot but I may wire in an on off switch so I can shut off the dimming pot for full flower power... :)

One thing I'm not lacking in my area is feed stores so I will get a bag of dry stall to see how it goes. I have always liked grow stones but they need to be soaked before use or they will raise your ph big time. I done know if I will as the bio char because my nutrients have a ton of potassium and charcoal has a bunch more in it as well... :)

Im sure the far reds are helping these girls finish up and the extra light in the middle of flower helped bulk them up some too. Since it's my first experience with the cob setup I'm sure I'll know much better a couple cycles down the road...

Have you run the cut you have now at six weeks before? The difference in lighting was a big game changer for me and the far reds are cheap enough not to sweat. I'm seeing so much difference in the final stages now I'm not sure what to chalk it up to... ;)

My present grow is a clone from my first grow (Skunk 11 from DP)...so genetics are identical. I have taken pictures daily of both, so I do a stare-and-compare. And...I don't know if it's finishing faster, but the far red aided second grow colas "seem" to be fatter. When I'm done I can check the grams per square foot and see if I gained or lost...but they "look" fatter...just saying.

There is something about squeezing a nice firm, sticky cola and smelling your fingers...it's the simple things!:hump:

The thing is this strain is a poor strain to test and compare how a plant finishes up with the aid of the far reds and modified light schedule. Here is an excerpt from the Dutch Passion info on the Skunk 11. “…Our Skunk expert recommends harvesting at 7 weeks, the buds may still be green at this point but the Skunk #11 is at its glorious and incomparable best.”


So when I read that I thought, oh yeah right. So I harvested part of the first plant at 7 weeks, a part at 8 which had some amber, and the remainder at 9 weeks which look pretty done to me…lots of amber. Then I did my own subjective test of effect. The 7-week harvest was stronger and had a way better effect. The 8-week and 9-week harvested buds were good, but noticeably not has good as the 7. Turns out that Skunk breeder of theirs was spot on. So, this plant will never see beyond 7 weeks! I am 2 days out now from 7 weeks and both runs just showed a few amber hairs at that point.


As for fattening up, weeks 4 and 5 were the biggest weeks for gain, but looking at the pics of this grow, they are still putting on weight under the far reds. So I’ll let you know if this run yielded better per square foot than the first. As an aside, up next is Ortega, a very indica strain from DP.

that hardwood charcoal doesn't breakdown fast at all , in fact it's a extremely slow release so with all the potassium we use anyway that charcoal don't add much if any to your mix . It's its buffering & sweeting effect is most beneficial,
that & larger chunks give home to the actives , as it's best to have a mix of sites for actives imo
the coco is one the pumice is another , the charcoal is the 3rd all different hosts for different needs if u will .

Day 59 and chop chop for all 11 Kush berry, the hashberry will be another week. Took most all the leaves that wouldn't take surgery to get at and hung them up. Temps are 72-75 and RH is around 40% so not ideal for drying but it's all I have to work with at the moment. I have some plans for the future and maybe even a marketable venture for drying but for now it will be hang 3-4 days, brown paper sacks 2-3 days, half gallon Mason jars till final trim... :)IMAG1052.jpg

I keep mine drying at 66%rh and 60*F. Perfection. Takes mine 6-8 days to dry. Good luck with 3-4.... Hope your shit doesn't end up ruined smelling like hay, friend.

A RH 40% is quite humid for us desert rats. The RH out side the room at this time is 22% right now. I have had more runs then I can count and never had a "hay" smell to the buds. When they go to the brown paper bags the stems still bend and don't snap. Leaving the extra leaf also slows the drying. By the time the buds hit the jars there is still a week of burping because the buds are still sweating. It's much more of a 12-14 day drying process, not a 4 day quick dry. It's not perfect but as growers we adapt and overcome obstacles to produce the best we can within our limitations.... :)
 
The hay smell is from the chlorophyll burning off.

If you do a lot of wet trimming the hay smell is going to be quite pungent from snipping all the sugar leaves.

Some people don't trim at all, they just chop and hang, and trim when it's dried.Dry trimming won't have that hay smell since you've already burned off most the chlorophyll during the dry.

Also in coco I have found that feeding Epsom salt (mag/sulfer) and silica all the way through at low levels while maintaining proper PH really increases over all smell and taste profiles as apposed to a cut off of all nutrient style flushing. I still add a little black strap molasses at the end even in hand watered coco, have always seen tricome heads swell as well as flowers the last week as apposed to not using it. I us maybe a teaspoon in 4 gallons of nutrient water. This has worked for me for years and I don't claim any science behind it just results and trial and error. I'm always open to learning new things and improving my knowledge base... :)
 
I run with a sugar feed all the way during flower (molasses, honey, and brown sugar). I've noticed immediately an enhanced terpene profile for whatever strain it is. Whether it's skunky, fruity, sour, etc.

I still end up with a smell of hay, but hot damn after a few weeks in jars they smell just as they were in the tent

An awesome harvest picture! I'd say your white cob light bar with far-red "snoozers" is a smashing success!

A little followup on the query you had for me a few posts up. My second run (the first with far reds) is drying, but it looks like about 1/3 better than last go. And...I did not adjust my light cycle from 12/12 to the 13.5on/10.5 off until 24 days into flower. I know Captainmorgan makes the switch at 2 weeks in, but I did not read that until 24 days in. Anyway I will switch at 14 days in next time. So warm cobs the same, feed the same, box the same and genetics identical...only difference is the far reds and modified light schedule. Results? A big jump in productivity!:hump:

Looks great! Im opting for a 3x4 space, almost your deal, and I already have 8 cobs to build a setup similar to yours. So my question is, do you feel it would have made a justifiable difference to throw in another bar with four cobs at 1.4? Or would it have been close to stupidity? I really feel like going for the extra power, but dont know, if its really worth the trouble and money. Would you mine telling me what to do, lol?

Thank you. How are your cobs laid out in that 3' x 4', 3-2-3? I wish and still may go with 9 at 1050MA for a total of 465 watts (3 HLG 120 1050's) but at 61% efficiency. If it's not to much trouble I would complete a run with what you have and the see what you like. It is a learning curve for sure...

So, with that in mind, my productivity is up AT LEAST 33%. From 1.5oz a square foot to over 2oz a square foot! Thank you. Everything looks much better then hps so far, smells far better and those buds are very hard, even the fox tails. I have never done a wet weight and my last wet trim was almost a decade ago. I'll have to wait for dry trimmed buds for total wiegh. This was more of a pheno hunt then a production run since I just ran cuts from seed plants but it looks like I might have found a couple... :)
