But in my original post i had gyessed as much and so i asked IF the tech will ever get to a point where...

And i guess i annoyed some folks. Wasnt my intention...

I never said you use them...I am simply saying the whole magical spectrum is a gimmick that LED manufactures employ to sell lights, complete and utter salesmen garbage, worse than a used car salesmen. They literally lie right to your face.
 
Worst part about these LED manufactors is their bloated ego's and sense of self entitlement, they all are like MY LIGHTS ARE MAGIC THEY LIGHT BETTER THAN ALL OTHERS WE HAVE A MAGIC SPECTRUM 100000% MORE YIELDS THAN A 1000 WATT HID LIGHT (DESIGNED BY NASA) <---heard from at least 3 different LED makers...then you try the light and it's putting out a footprint of 18 inches by 24 inches and your like wtf this can barely grow 1 small plant...

I am only covering a 4'x5' area, because I want to see how close I can run without bleach. The 14 girls are 3' to 4' so far.
None of us are trying to sell you a magical spectrum, we are giving you the same choices as T5s. 3000K , 4000K etc. You aren't reading if you are still stuck on that magical spectrum, none of us are.
 
I just keep bringing myself back to the spectrum KING, claims so absurd it just hurts my head to think about.....makes the whole LED community look like a huge joke.

The evidence for LED being the superior technology has been all over these boards for several years now, but you're right in that the information isn't organized. I will suggest that it would be difficult to find anyone here with a DIY lamp who has ever gotten less than 1 GPW. There are people using Vero version 1 at nominal current for several years now and have never gotten less than 1.2 GPW from multiple strains. That's what I would consider "old" tech today but still relevant. The really old stuff includes most of the red/blue lamps you see on ebay and amazon. Not that red/blue is necessarily as bad as it's painted sometimes. The reason these spectrums haven't been properly tested is that those manufacturers hide the part numbers so it's impossible to put them up against something equal in output. We don't know their output, but judging by the input wattage their efficiency and yield seems to be similar to CFL, which is bad considering much of the light from CFL is lost or reflected. This isn't necessarily a problem of spectrum, but of multiple companies using the utmost cheapest parts they can possibly source. The time is approaching where anyone can do comparative grows with white, pink and purple and we will then know how much effect spectrum tweaking plays on yield potential. But you can't really go wrong with a white light like CXB putting out 2.3 to 3 umole/J depending on how hard/soft they are driven. Watt for watt there is no light source that can compete with CXBs, but the point where LED was the better choice was reached several years ago.

I just pulled down my first harvest under 3000w of COB LED.

It simply crushed my HPS runs in every way, including yield for damn near the same wattage.
Quality was much much better than what I have grown previously with the same strains and same conditions.

HID can't compare if you do it right...

its the engine, not the car....if your engine sucks, most likely the light will suck....what is nice is catch everyone up to speed on having a level playing field conversation about how and how it is produced, instead of all this he said/ she said bullshit....

It is nice to have a starting reference point and then go from there, even for newbies...I agree with statement...2-3 years ago, but it is simply not the case anymore if choosing the correct diode....That is more than evident in these forums, or the shell that is left of the good ole' days...

Here you go,think the yields were pretty close but the quality on the LED side was better,even has lab tests.
This LED light is at least a couple years old and the new COBs are better.
