What do you think is an appropriate raise for someone working minimum wage?

$7.25 an hour

1 year of work, no sick days. I work 1 year at minimum wage without calling out once, receiving 0 customer complaints, totally ideal minimum wage worker in every respect.. How much do you think, MAXIMUM, should I be compensated for, if at all? Why?
I'll give ya an extra $1.50

Edited because I can't spell

It's common sense that If a person is willing to work a full time job, they should be able to live.
So when they day comes that they volunteer for the work force and choose where they go for employment, this same common sense should kick in and tell a person not to accept a job as a slave.

I mean really, who works all week knowing they aren't going to have enough and then stays in this rut for months, even years/decades? Oh that's right, those who know their neighbors dollars will be used to cover their ass.

Following is the premise under discussion:

Note in particular the following
Any subsidy Boeing receives has nothing to do with "Taxpayers are subsidizing businesses that don't pay their employees a living wage when they utilize social safety net programs"
So, yeah, irreverent. Seems you are unable to keep up, or possibly think interjecting your chicken head.nonsequiturs is somehow relevant.
Goddamn you are a fucking stupid Individual.
WE SUBSIDIZE THE CORPORATIONS BY PAYING WELFARE TO THEIR WORKERS.
I BET YOU THOUGH ONLY NON WORKING PEOPLE GET WELFARE

Yeah we all have unlimited choices for jobs. I bet you would be the first person to tell some one to take any job as long as they were working

Love that graphic. It so clearly states how megacorps in this country get to make the rules to favor themselves at everyone else's expense.

This is blatantly anti competitive and anti American. There should be laws to protect We the People from such obviously destructive greed and it's a testament to how screwed up our country is that there isn't a clear mandate for doing so!

Seriously? Wow, OK. The funniest part about this whole shit is that if I looked at it like you do, I'd realize that I'm paying for probably half of the people in here that I'm arguing with. Ironic, isn't it?

How about paying them a livable wage, or being so anti union?

I know a couple Walmart employees. They consider their jobs there to better than the ones they left. They both are slackers, so I think they are fairly paid.
that is more do to the morals and ethics of the person working ...........and those have gone to shit in USA

but living on a 7.25 hour wage is impossible unless u live with several other ppl .........taxes alone take 1/3 of the weeks check (u get a refund but that is not now) ...food gas rent insurance(health life car house/apartment) power water( then ppl have fines and child support) ....those prices have sharply increased with out wages going up for several years ......let me show me my math

24,000 divided by 7.25 is 3310 and bunch of numbers so to make 24k a year u need 3310 hours of work
3310 divided by 8 is 413.25 ..only 365 days so working ever day 8 hours makes u 2920 hours and 16 hours over time
now assuming u can work every day for a year u would make 9 k in over time at 10.83 pay rate then u would make 24k a year......and we all know they will not allow that over time they try to keep everyone at 38/39 hours a week to avoid over time ......so working 39 hours a week for 52 weeks is only 2028 hours ....so the maximum amount can make is 14,703 a year

so 39 hours a week every week will only get u 15k a year then 20% of that is gone for taxes if not more

it is impossible to live on what they want to pay with prices the way they are ....at 7.25 u are a slave and that is illegal as i understand the current laws on books working every day

At the least. Thinking a doper forum probably has more failures than successes.

But what was funny about it? Not taking responsibility for their own short comings in life, or that they think 40 hours of burger flips is suppose to pay for life?

If you were stuck in a deep hole, would you want a bucket of food lowered to you each day, or a fucking ladder?

Full time at Walmart is 34 hours in a week. There are 168 hours in a week. Im thinking many, if not most, are not working past that 34 hour mark before getting them some benefits. Complete lack of self accountability, and many use the system not because they need it, but because they qualified.

I doubt I have that much time off in a week when I fucking retire.

Full time at wally world like most places is 40hrs. With an hr break. Night shift makes a dollar more, night shift makes more in most businesses. Night shift would be 10pm-7am with 2 days off a week fot example.
Walmart does not pay minimum wage in tx

Instead of spending your time doing all this math you could go get a roommate or a second job. Then you'd be livin' large.
Don't get in the habit of crying about problems and asking for help or handouts- get in the habit of doing, going, working and making. This is America.... No one wants to hear a sob story, they want bad asses and hard workers. It's a dog eat dog world, not a day care.

A better question is who is it up to to make that decision? You, your employer or the federal government?
