can people of color be racist?

Dude, at the risk of sounding like a dunce:dunce:, I admit that I don't get what you are trying to say. Are you making a point or just trolling?
You're not a dunce, and the pic is not a troll. This whole thread is ridiculous, and I was merely joining in with it. Caucasian paint has as much chance as anything of being racist on RIU.

The claim that white people, and only white people are racist is about as blatantly racist as you can get, and it is a popularly embraced position on the left.

But Republicans are racists. LOL

Ahh but you see, the Democrats have "black friends" so it's ok.

Your obviously not getting the power structure part of racism. Yes black people can be prejudice, yes people of color can be oppressiv. But with out power, (which people of color don't have, statisticly speaking) it's not racist

I am not missing anything. I simply refuse to let leftists redefine words to suit their own nefarious purposes. "Only white people are racist"... "All white people are racist"... "Check your privilege"... Fuck that. If you want to accuse white people of bad intentions, then be open and honest about your racist accusations. Own up to it.

During the past 40 years, the party affiliation of white southern males shifted from Democrat to Republican...

This photo was taken during the Walgreen sit-in in Jackson Miss, 1963:

The young men harassing the protesters are from that demographic. I'm guessing that Desert Dude might say they just came to their senses and left that racist Democratic Party so they could support those good protesters.

Tell that to folks in Baltimore. I have never met a racist Republican.
White people hating black people for being black is racist, black people hating white people for being systematically oppressed for centuries by white people isn't hating them because they're white. Do you think there are more black people who hate white people for being white then there are white people who hate black people for being black? Don't conflate that with me saying there aren't any black people who hate white people for being white, I posted an example in my 1st post in this thread, but I think to argue that there are more racist members of a minority population in a country that's overwhelmingly white is obviously wrong. I can go gather some numbers if you want to check

No one is redefining any words. As a matter of fact, most, if not all definitions of racism has the woRd, supremacy. Look up the definition of supremacy and you will notice the word, power.

Put two and two together. Put history with those definitions, add statistics, you got yourself racist white men In power, with a large population of opressed people of color.

I'm in no way defending prejudice people of color towards white people, no I'm making the point that the very definition of racism, can only be linked to a group of oppressive power, Not The opressed

DD, I think you are right in this point. In its simplest definition, racism is a belief of superiority of one racial group to another. In and of itself, racism is just another silly notion. I guess you are asking, so what? I ask you, do you think that white racism exists in the US today?

The claim that white people, and only white people are racist is about as blatantly racist as you can get, and it is a popularly embraced position on the left.
So, blacks can be racist too. So what? Are you giving us an English lesson? Other than that, your distinction is not important. In the US, whites are the majority group and whites will continue to dominate in the US in terms of population and economically for a long time to come. The vote and numerical dominance in the population is what makes white racists a threat to blacks and other people of color. One racist by himself might be comedic. 100 white racists in a police force is a threat to a community. 100,000 white racists in a voting block turns elections. Based on this, I'd say that it is reasonable to be more concerned about white racism towards people of color than say black racism towards white. An impotent racist can hurt only their self. A racist in power will do damage to others.

This is why people in the US that oppose racism can and should confront racism when they encounter it -- especially white people in opposition to white racism -- because it's in this group that racism can cause the most harm. Use all means to negate the harm that racists can cause -- courts, media and social pressure. Put the pressure on and keep it on.

I know, tl:dr

I read it all.

Do I think some white people are racist? Sure, some are. I think they are in the minority, though, and frankly they are powerless, harmless, and laughable. I am not concerned with racism, neither white nor black racism. I think it is a non-issue. Most people get along just fine. I think government style racism (affirmative action and such) has alienated many people because racism enforced at the point of a gun is harmful, and the ones most victimized by this racism are impoverished whites, of which there are many. I actually support class-based affirmative action. Any kid who grew up in poverty is hobbled, and the color of his skin is irrelevant.

If you believe the political pandering on the left, you would think there is a klansman under every bush. This toxic propaganda has driven a wedge in society that will take decades to mend. My life experience is that most people don't think about race at all, but Democrats and political hacks that follow them are doing their best to create a divided America, and they seem to be succeeding.

yeah, the third ranking house republican, also known as the "whip" (since they whip up votes for bills to pass congress) is probably totally powerless.

your opinions are beyond worthless.

also, why did you join a white supremacy group?

Ok, so here again, I can agree with you. The days of overt racism are mostly done, as an example, the klan even now has a chapter that recruits blacks and is shifting to fight the new world order!

Anecdotes aren't great at proving anything but I take your word that you don't experience racism or think about race at all. Race relations haven't affected me much either but then again I'm a white male. A counter anecdote came from a friend of mine at work, a black kid from Louisiana who told me that he was careful to never drive through rural areas at night in his home state. He said its just different there compared to Oregon. This would be in the 1990's and 2000's. So there is that. He experienced racism or at least racial bias to the point where his freedom to move about was affected.

That said, racial bias and corrosive effects haven't gone poof. I put the link below in this post because I'm going to quote from it.

http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/at-the-edge/2015/01/13/america-racial-bias-does-exist

"in some overt ways, our society does openly reflect an ongoing problem that’s making things worse, not better. The Republican Party disenfranchises voters who aren’t white because it helps win elections, for instance, while the Democratic Party portrays Republicans as racist in order to win elections as well."

The article discusses several studies and draws some conclusions like this:

"Inherent racial bias is not a liberal concoction or a conservative conspiracy. It’s simply the truth, and the social and political science evidence is starting to be assembled all around us in myriad ways."

So, OK, I'm overstating the racism thing. Not sure I can go there with you that impoverished whites are victims of affirmative actions taken to mitigate issues with racial bias but I can absolutely get on the train with you regarding affirmative action based upon class and economic hardship.

And thanks for the discussion.

More like a klansman under every corporation, even parts of the government, liberal and conservative
