Making your own seeds

Have you ever pollinated a plant grown from feminized seed?
Yes. Ive done a few and it makes no difference. Female plants created by feminized pollen arent hermi prone more then regular seeds, its all based on the parents and if they were hermi prone. Females from fem seeds are just that, females plants with chromosomes the same as regular seed females, the plants cant tell the difference. Now if a female creates pollen without man made chemical help i feel they are potentially hermi prone and would trash her. I can run alot of strains out way past harvest and will never hermi just slowly die but the ones that naner at the end of budding are more hermi prone to me. Most breeders use STS

the method I did for fems is Somas method out of his book.... When using collodial silver make sure to wear a painters mask and rubber gloves.
Your thinking of sts, some people drink CS when sick or other reasons.

a stabilized line will have one pheno, every time. no selection necessary. that's why the time is spent, so you can grow a copy of what's on the picture by buying seeds. what you see is what you get.

f1's are stable, unless you're doing three or four ways, or just chucking left and right to get mutts.

f2's will have the most variation.

gregor mendel, look him up. trust me, breeding and genetics are simple and scientifically logical.
I know what a stabilized line is...
The point I was making is you have no variety when growing them + less chance of finding something special when every plant is identical.

...LOL...

reading this thread takes me back to the first time. i have a newbie story to share with you...

...i had two females with good phenos chosen, and one male that was a bit drawfy but whatever... what i did was took the girls to a separate grow tent waiting on the male to finish developing. when the male pollen was fairly loose id stick the male with females. I installed a low voltage fan blowing (thinking its give me the best spread)... good idea at the time, but no way!! not only did the pollen get every where - not all the buds got pollinated plus the clean up was CRAZY and I can't begin to tell you how much of that stuff inhaled, it was NASTY!... stupid then, but really funny now....

I've never tried, and know next to nothing about it ..... but it doesn't sound that hard.

The reason I bring this up is that I am growing some Grape Stomper x Exodus Cheese (from seed) from another RIU member, and these plants are fantastic! As good as anything I've picked up from any breeder. I'm going to give breeding a go myself once I've done a little bit more research, but from what I've sampled so far this really makes me wonder why I (or any of us) spend hundreds of dollars per pack for genetics that more often than not leave me disappointed. Don't get me wrong, there are some good breeders out there, and they have their place in this game, but the days of buying pack after pack could be over for st0w. The juice just ain't worth the squeeze imo.

Anyone else feeling me on this?
totally agree ,,the good breeders will stay around.. we need good stable genetics.. to make our crosses and new strains.. so i dont see anyone STOPPING the buying of breeder genetics.. but i do see alot of great shit from pollen chucking.. honestly.. i wont say im a breeder because i havent been doing it long enough to say i know enough to be a BREEDER.. but i do chuck pollen .. and CREATE AMAZING SHIT.. here. this cross is something i just tested.. flowering now.. just starting the flush..SourCream 3 x Og 18 x skunk 1 G 3.jpg
ECSD x G13 Haze X OG18 x Skunk #1 (G) the G is just the letter for the seed.. thats just 1.. and its not even close to the best..

diesel x kandykush x skunk 1 A 6.jpg
ChemDawg x Kandy Kush x Skunk #1 (A)

i say if you wana make seeds man. GO FOR IT.. its alot of fun.. and it helps you understand more about growing and your plants.. so i wish you the best of luck dude..

i just reccommend that you get an area for breeding.. and grab a hepa filter.. so you dont pollinate all your females.. i can say the biggest mistake i made was allowing a male to pollin drop.. i collected it . and tried paint brushing my flower room.. make some crosses i thought. ya.. well. i ended up with way more seeds then i wanted. and a bunch of buds i had to sell cheaper cuz i didnt wana pick out thousands of seeds.. wasnt fun.

Solid advice. I already have an area on the opposite side of my basement that I will do my pollen chucking. Nice buds btw!

So here's the first noob breeding question:

When selecting males, what are the physical characteristics that you're looking for? Or, is it simply a matter of dusting some females and growing out the resulting seeds to see if the male is worthwhile?

Flavor and High. Grow til mature, trim off crystally parts, cure and smoke. All other traits would only relate to appearance or structure. The winner should be the most enjoyable once consumed.

Another question..... Is lighting as important to flower males and collect pollen? IOW, would a smaller light like a 250 watt HPS be sufficient to stick a few males under, or would I need something larger that I would normally use to flower females under?

st0w... i use 8 26w CFLS.. for my breeding chamber.. and no problems what so ever.. a 250 is fine.. u can also just use cfls.. i have 29 1 gallon pots. in a 4x3x4 and 1 female thats being sprayed with CS. to do a pollen donation.. making fem beans..

breeding and shit.. u dont need much light. just enough for the females to bud up.. and male to drop pollen is fine.. i have a 400w.. but i only use that for breeding with big plants.. but when doing small clones.. that get about 10-12 inches tall max.. cfls work great.. actually better then i thought the buds are tight.. and still pull off a decent amount of seeds per cross.. and f2s and shit..

but i figured since im not actually smoking any of this bud.. it doesnt need to come out looking dense and shit. just keep them healthy and ur seeds will ripen up quickly.. i leave them until the trichs are ready for smoking.. so that when i sort the seeds out.. i make kief from the material.. so its not wasted.. works well.. so far so good.. or u can use for cannabutter or topicals..

The female with seeds pic was under T8's. I used two Nice&Fat males to BX to the female. The seeds look perfect.

you can put your male by a window, it will still chuck pollen
i saw posted that someone left a male in a dark room for a time
it managed to plaster the room with pollen

Somethingsi I've learned is the male you use or even the female once you crose them the seeds you make may not be stable meaning they could hermie
example i crossed black widow male to black widow female hermiied on me
Same male to a walkabout skunk smelling plant and a haze looking plant both hermed on me
only things that didnt from last year were sour jefe boss's sister couple different mandala safari mix phenos didn't herm
The black widow male was shit
Only way to know is cross and try them out

Sour jefe boss's sister and ones didnt herm were f 2,s

For those of you that have made feminised seeds ..... when you polinate a clone from the exact same plant that you applied your CS to, are they an identical representation of the original plant or is there some variance in the resulting seeds?

that's called a S1, though i think some have an opinion that pollinating across clones is something a little different
i do see S1's produced by professional breeders, though i'm sure they have other things behind the breeding curtain
i'm growing some S1 seeds currently, typically expect almost anything, some will resemble the parent, others will be very different

I like studs. I'll never buy a fem. IMO male keepers are just as important as mums.

There's a passion about breeding and wanting the best. You start by taking the hottest chicks and hitting them with a certain special male. There're males that have much more vigor, preferable structure, and the smells as good as a lady pretty boy type. These males are IMO even more important than the hot chick.

Maybe I'm sexist...
