I don't get it
defoliated and trimming are more or less the same thing, you remove leaves in the hope to gain yield

why is there a HUGE difference between topping a plant and trimming a plant to get more colas ?

I have grown loads of plants just like these plants, just by trimming the leaves

when I trim the leaves on the apical dominance shoot there’s a decrease of certain auxins throughout the plant which allows these lateral shoots to produce new, vigorous growth

this is also how topping, pinching off and fim works so why can't

trim the leaves on the apical dominance shoot work the same ?
We have been waiting for you or one of the many that have came before you to give us this answer. You make and stand by your claims so certainly you know the answer.

That's impressive stickybuds, I've been defoliating my plants for some time, not to the extreme that you go but still.

Can't argue with people here, they grow a couple plants and all the sudden have a masters in botany.

And the back peddling has left him in a corner. While there please do not get canopy management mixed up with your defoliation techniques...

god damn! I feel like a dog chasing it's tail here Trying to explain this shit. YES! that's a nice plant!

trimming for colas is different as you are only eliminating sucker branches or pinching off lower budsites. Forcing the plant to put it's energy (energy produced by the leaves btw) into more productive tops.

and you didn't "just trim the leaves" on that thing. You COMPLETELY defoliated it and then allowed it to grow back. Thereby doubling your veg. time...if not longer.

ahh fuckit..if you don't get it....you need to figure it out for yourself

you can make this as complicated and inefficient as you like. Me...I like simplicity and efficiency.

but..whatever

good luck

edit: and hey mrshim..you don't need a masters to understand translocation...just a little reading comprehension. Which apparently many are lacking here.

To be honest I haven't read, nor do I plan on reading the entire thread. Whatever he did(at least that's what he is claiming) turned out well. I personally do trim leaves that get no light, I probably wouldn't ever trim off 99% of the leaves though.

How do you decide which leaves are getting light and which ones are not? Curious is all....

thanks mr2shim, yeh there a lot of growers on here that say defoliating plants is wrong and I have a degree in botany lol

I scrog, leaves under get cut after an X amount of time in flower. You can check out my grows they're all here.

I don't think you understood my post.
Why not let the plant decide when to shed them? Plants are not into welfare. If it aint contributing then it aint hanging around! I am not calling you or your grow method out. Just using your post to make a point. Its all good....

I can almost guarantee that a sog @ 4plants/sq ft is tighter than any scrog. If those plants benefit from not defoliating.....

and i've seen it done both ways

Because the leaves to some degree do get light albeit very minimal. It takes quite a while for them to die honestly. I'd rather just get it over with instead of feeding a big ass fan leaf that isn't doing anything but sitting under a screen. Just so things are clear I'm not one of those tards that thinks weed whacking the plant will add ounces to the yield.

are we the only people noticing this part?

i feel like i'm taking crazy pills here.
I noticed and IMO that is a bit extreme and not something I would ever do to my plant.

if you really have a degree in botany then you should understand how defoliation would bring the process of translocation to a halt.

or how being an inefficient grower is in no way good.

anyone can get a degree anymore.

hmmm, I wonder why we don't defoliate apple trees during the summer? Or pick all the leaves off a grape vine?

why have plants with leaves at all? It seems like they would grow naturally with just stalks and fruit if this would produce more?

why the fuck do trees have leaves?

No there are many of us that figured that out 2 or 3 or a 100 threads ago one this subject. And they all end up just like this one soon will...
rightfully so

fucking right? wtf??

but why not?

if defoliating is good? go for the gold man.

seriously, a shaded solar cell still produces power. Just not as much as one in direct sunlight.

an accurate analogy there really.

You seem like you are looking for an argument. Sadly, you won't find one with me. If you don't like my answer that's fine but I'll summarize in as little words as possible why I choose to do what I do..

Because I fucking want to, deal with it.
