  • What trace minerals pure rainwater contains, it picks up from the environment through evaporation and transpiration. According to a 2008 EPA study that looked at rainwater composition in North Carolina during a hurricane, minerals such as nitrate, mercury, chloride and sulfate were present. The latter two correspond with sea salt.

[h=2]Geographic Considerations[/h]
  • Mineral compositions can strongly vary by location --- ocean and coastal areas receive rainwater high in salt, for example --- as well as climate.

[h=2]Conclusion[/h]
  • There is no one simple answer for which minerals can be found in rainwater, beyond the fact that the amounts are small enough for most sources to consider it soft water.

I live in the midwest, farm country, and i have heard that it's possible that i'm getting agricultural chemicals in my rainwater, but i figure i gotta use something, and it's either that, or use tap water. The problem with tap water is that i have to put it in a bucket with an airstone for a while before i can use it, because of the chlorine. I do that with all my water anyway, but i can use rainwater almost immediately, and tap water i have to wait a few hours.

My water is pretty neutral at 130ppm, so I need to add cal/mag to my hydro nutes otherwise I will always get a deficiency.

I use Botanicare because the first time I had the problem I went online to order fast delivery from Amazon (I'm a Prime member anyway) and that's the brand Amazon carried.

My RO water is 14 ppm so use a product from Dyna Grow but can't remember the name of it.
