Young seedling/plants falling over

Well I weighed them dry to start then weighed them again wet, they hold masses of water them big cubes.

Any way I figured out how much water they were holding and spun them out in my salad spinner until they were holding half the water they could (dunno if this is dry enough, it was my guess anyway)

Looked this morning and they don't half go through some water now since they are not in a prop with a lid on now they had gone through about 60ml each from last night till this morning so I poured enough water into the bottom of each of the trays for them to wind up roughly where they were last night again - I guess this wicking up through the bottom will help cause the roots to search down?

I also sprayed the tops and will do when I get home. Will post some pics when I get more time at the weekend.

wicking is good. i think you are on a roll so far. that salad spinner comes in handy sounds like, I remember Al saying he uses one. anyway keep doin what your doin.... lookin forward to the pics, peace

Thanks for the vote of confidence sk3tch3 glad to know i'm doing something right at last - really struggling with the temp its been hitting 88 again today and i got my oscillating fan on full speed now and the little buggers can handle it without being blown over.

Will get my rvk 150 fitted on the weekend, that should shift a bit more air in there for me.

Salad spinner is the bollox - when I weighed a dry 3" rockwool cube it was about 25 grams when it was soaked it was 300 grams, stuck 3 of them in the salad spinner pulled the cord 4 times and they were down to 40 grams each, almost bone dry, I had to stick them back in the water - saved a bit of tennis elbow i reckon.

Any ideas how long it could take until the roots come through the bigger cubes?

depends on your conditions and whether you are PATIENT or not. dont touch. you are going to find yourself wanting to check on them and dont. when you see the plant start growing veg, you can know you have broken through, 2-6 days im guessing

When you say don't touch, you mean leave the cubes alone - I need to take the cubes out to weigh them to see how much water to add - I am Mr Science after all Arrgggg.

Should be ok to move them in and out of the tray just weigh and put back on ?

This much I know - to be honest I'm just tipping some water into the bottom of each tray morning and night now and spraying the tops, seems to be going ok so far anyway
