My babies are just newly born n the cotelydons are turning yellow at the ends. Please tell me what could be causing this? I really have never had this problem with my other seedling in the past.

Is there anything I can do to help them? The strain is TGA's The Flav, growing in soil under a T5 fixture.

Any advice would be awesome. As I dont want to lose them.

Thank U my fellow RIUers..

I am using a soiless/soil mix. The temps have been in the late 70's and early 80's. Humidity stays around 40-50%. Its not the heat cuz when they sprouted the cotelydons were yellow right away. Just wondering if that was normal cuz I dont think it is. I have not had this happen before so makes me wonder WTF is really goin on..

They are under my T5 as mentioned in previous post, and I only give them water when they get dry.

What is the exact composition of your medium? (what did you mix and what brands?)

Usually I think yellow cotyledons just means that the seedling used up it's nutrient reserve already because it's lacking nutrients. if you're growing in soil-less you need to give them a very, very light nutrient solution, preferably soaking the medium before you even plant the seed.

In the past I grew in soil the cotyledons would stay green and exactly the way they were since day one for a really long time, and wouldn't fall off till like 1-2 months later.
So if they stay green it just means that the seedling/plant hasn't had to use it's nutrient reserve because you're feeding them.

that's what I think. Could be a watering problem as well if you're letting the medium dry out.

Would that be bad for the plant nutrient wise? The first set of tru leaves are green. So that's good.

Nah, when it uses up the cotyledons (assuming the cotyledons actually work as nutrient reserves like I've heard), it'll still be able to put out a few healthy set of leaves but you can / should start them on a light feeding schedule now. What nutrient you use btw? Go very light. If you have something like Liquid karma which is .5-.5-.1 that should suffice. I use liquid karma on all my babies because I get free samples of this all the time and the plants seem to grow faster with it from day one than without.

how do you use the liquid karma for seedlings? i have a small bottle of it I picked up somewhere in a 3 pack with something else and i'm planning on popping a couple seeds tomorrow, thx

well for the Liquid karma it suggests 1 tsp per gallon but I usually start at 1/4 - 1/2 tsp per gallon. After dropping the seed in I soak/water the soil in that solution.
and after that just straight water if needed until they break the surface, which is like 3-4 days for me.
Liquid karma again at 1/2 - 1 tsp per gallon every other watering after they sprout.

You shouldnt be using nutes right now anyway the cotyledons will stay longer then 3 days always I have never grown a plant where those fall off in 3 days. Your either over watering or your soil-less mix your using could be the problem If your using coco And depending on where it came from.

You never keep them moist let them dry out. not super dry but you know. Let the soil get dry so the roots can breathe. I water my plant every 2 days or so.

I don't know how to fully explain it but you really dont need to feed the plant untill the cotyledons fall off. They provide the nutrients or some shit like that. And eventually they fall off then you might notice a fan leaf or 2 turning yellow that's when you start the feed. I think that's how it works some one correct me if I am wrong.
