I kind of thought that as well, they are pretty damn small. 500ppm is more apt for when the leaves are closer to "full size".

Always run lower PPM's, when you see little spots, red veins on the stems, or the leaves becoming pale THEN and ONLY THEN, increase your ppm's by about 200-300.
that way, if the plants ever develop problems, you can rule out "lock out" or excessive salts, or all the other causes of problems that make new growers run around like chickens with their heads cut off. "maybe its this, no its this, wait a minute, I think it is this". When in actuality, all they wanted was a little more food.
