Will a 400 mh light be enough for....

Okay so right now I have a seedling/clone box with roughly 240watts of flourescent light that I start the babies in. Im shooting for 6 plants in soil and I have a 1000 watt hps for the flowering room. Now im trying to decide what kind of mh light I should get for six veging indicia plants. The seedling/clone box will be good for about three weeks, than I will move them to the veg room. Than after about one and a half months of vegging I will cut clones from the plants (and put them in the seedling/clone box) before moving them to the flowering room. So my question is what watt mh lamp should I get a 400, 600, or 1000? Im guessing the 1000 is to much because the veg room will be relatively small so Im deciding a 600 or 400 watt. Heat and space is definitely a factor so im shooting for the lower wattage but will 400 watts be enough for six vegging plants? Im not sure of the dimentions of the veg room yet but it will not be over 7x7x7. The operation will be entirely soil, indoors, temp right now is average 65 during the night and 80 during the day. Ventilation will be limited but it shouldn't be a problem.

Any suggestions of a proper wattage for the ml lamp?

Hi Spin...

Ventilation is always key especially when using HID lights... Of course, you should go wit h the biggest wattge possible while still keeping temps between 70-80 degrees...

can we here more about your ventilation and maybe a picture :)

The pic will not be for a while because the room isn't really ready yet and I don't have a digital camera or camera phone. But the veg. room will be in a shed isolated off from the flower and seedling/clone room. The shed is split into two halfs the bottom floor and a top floor. The flower room is going to be on the bottom floor because the 1000watt hps most sit really high and the bottom half is higher than the top half. The seedling/clone box will be also on the bottom floor isolated from the flowering room. For the hps 1000watt ventilation will be through a vent tube and ocilating fan going out through a small hole on the side of the shed. The mh on the top floor will be vented through these ceiling vents so I was thinking of putting two fans level to the pots pointing up to promote the heat to rise up and through the two vent holes in the ceiling. A rough estimate of the dimentions of the veg room is no bigger than 7x7x7.

I have another question but I think I might just start anoither thread. Will 5000 fluorescent lumens be enough for my seedling/clone box? I only plan to do like six seedlings/clones at the most.

I would go with 600, and get some mylar. But like knowm said if you can get a 1000, and keep your temps down, then you will have some filthy plants : ).

However, if you get the 1000 and you cant keep your temps down, then dont do it, the 600 will deff give you some nice bushy buds : )

Hey SPin.... If you get a big enough exhaust fan and ARE ACTUALLY TAKING THE HEAT OUT OF THE ROOM... then you should have no problem using a 600 or 1000....

except for maybein the summer... do you have access to an AC unit?

cheers

For the veg room I will have fans on the floor pointed up to promote the raising heat to circulate out the ceilng vents, but there wouldn't be any tubing or sophisticated circulation systems for the veg room. The flowering room will have a better ventilation system but thats another subject in itself. During mid summer afternoons the ave temp is around 90-95 which I believe will stunt growth if the lights are heating the rooms even more (95-105). I think I will go with a 400 because i'm already having problems with my 1000watt hps and heat. When I bought the thing I originally had it for a closet op. but little did I know how stupid that would be. The room with fans but no cirrculation of fresh air would top out at like 120 degrees!! haha. What's even funnier is that I tryed to germinate seeds with that thing...:fire:
