Why seemingly mature seeds do not pop?

So I'm not one to really grow bag ceed, but I came across a knockout frost monster of Iranian G13.

In said bag, were a handful of ceeds, like 7.
All of them look mature, dark, full size, with stripping.
Usually I get around 95% or so ceed poppin' sucess using the soak method in a shot glass.

Not these ceeds. They simply won't pop.

Simply wondering how this occurs, or if anyone knows the science behind this.

Thanks ya'll.

Several things can factor in....for one they could just be bad seeds, it happens. People harvest the seed too early or let them sit in a moist/humid environment, all it takes is for them to barely get wet and it will ruin them. The outer shell is called the Parianth. If that gets wet it allows the hormones to dissipate. You gotta keep em dry as hell and in the dark at about 55-60 degrees for longer shelf life. I've seen beans pop that were 3 years old, and ones that wouldnt pop that were only a few months old. Some take way longer than others, i popped a couple burmese kush seeds for a friend that took about 2 weeks and grew slow as hell, still dont know if it was me or the strain as i usually have about a 95% rate like you. Also how old were they? The older they are the harder they get to pop. If i have to keep seeds longer then 4-6 months i put them in the fridge which helps them last a few more months. I read somewhere that it tricks the seed into thinking its in the frozen ground for winter, it preserves the hormone for starting once spring hits. If you have 20 bones laying around i suggest picking up a copy of Jorges Medical Grower's Bible. Great for info on things of this nature! Best of luck!!

These seeds are about two months old assuming a proper cure, which I did.

Thank you for the response. I will have to gove you rep later. I prefer scientific explanations

Your seed could look good but was not stocked properly. Or your seed is in dormance phase. It happen when your seed are freshly harvested.A technique to take them out of dormance is to put them in fridge few days.Or use gibereline acid. I already tried fridge technique and it worked.

Impossible to really know the answer here, this is purely speculative.

If your bag was exposed to temperature extremes before you got it, that might have affected viability.

Some ceeds have super hard shells and require some scuffing for water to soak in well to cause germination.

Some ceeds just take a long time to germinate; its not unheard of for some to take 7-10 days or even (rarely) more than that.

Temp matters, optimal germination temperature is probably about 75-80F.

Well I have one that finally popped and its still getting itself open. This was after 48 hour soak.

I have heard of the scuffing technique and haven't yet deployed it.

Thanks for all the good info, didn't know about the fridge.
Fingers crossed. I'm interested if this is the little ceed that can.
