Lol yea, it probably doesn't hurt.I bet the dark cover aids with that, nice.
That means you aren't giving it enough water. The pot should be thoroughly soaked and left to dry. Then it's watered again when dry.I never seem to get run off for some reason. One day I gave it 2l of water and only a dribble came out the bottom.
I'm definitely convinced it's a root after having another look. What you circled looks just like what i did

What do you think is wrong with the roots? Looks nice and white to me, no discolouration or anything. If they're roots, they don't look to be in very good shape.
I water when I think the pot feels lighter, to be fair I might not be a very good judge. I do have a moisture meter but half afraid of sticking in and out incase I damage roots. That means you aren't giving it enough water. The pot should be thoroughly soaked and left to dry. It wont damage roots but it most likely wont give you accurate readings. Use feelI water when I think the pot feels lighter, to be fair I might not be a very good judge. I do have a moisture meter but half afraid of sticking in and out incase I damage roots.
It's hard to tell from the pic. The one, if it's a root, looks ok, but the others, if they're roots, look air pruned.I'm definitely convinced it's a root after having another look.

Ok will do. Would you suggest I let it dry out, after it's watering today and give it as much water it needs until I see runoff?Btw if its your only pot just leave it in
No anything else that's in the picture is just crap that was in the soil. There was only the 1 root showing, I've covered it up with some soil now. Luckily I check them at least 3 times a day so I see anything pretty soon. It's hard to tell from the pic. The one, if it's a root, looks ok, but the others, if they're roots, look air pruned.
You're good then. Ime, you get them at the surface, when you top dress and mulch. No anything else that's in the picture is just crap that was in the soil. ^ ThisMost likely feeder roots, if you're top dressing.
I have roots all through a 30 gal pot on one of my mothers. Today I’ll be pullin her out and cutting off most of the roots and giving her fresh soil to grow into. Don’t worry about damaging them. Plus those meters are junk.I water when I think the pot feels lighter, to be fair I might not be a very good judge. I do have a moisture meter but half afraid of sticking in and out incase I damage roots.
I feel like this is said over and over but here it is again.Ok will do. Would you suggest I let it dry out, after it's watering today and give it as much water it needs until I see runoff?
This yesMost likely feeder roots, if you're top dressing.
Because you have a kickass root system don't sweat itI'm using 7l pots so not sure why my roots are coming up to the top of the soil. Any ideas?
Ok that's helpful, thanks. Filling another pot for reference is genius can't fail with that method.I feel like this is said over and over but here it is again.
Water when the pot is dry. Water until the pot is thoroughly soaked. Water slow, take your time so the entire soil gets wet. Water until you have runoff, more than just a couple drops. Don't water again until the pot is dry.
If you are having trouble judging when the pot is dry and you have an extra identical pot and soil it will help. Take the extra pot and fill it with soil. This empty pot with just soil will be your reference pot. Pick it up and judge it's weight. Don't water the pot with the plant until it feels like the reference pot.
After you water pick up the watered pot just for an idea of what it weighs wet. There should be a very clear difference between the wet pot and dry pot.

Oh cool. I assumed they shouldn't get air or light. Not worried about it now. It's not unusual to have roots over the surface.

I potted it about 3 weeks ago.
