Why are COBs better, and whats so great about the 3590?

so if you cut the phosphor layer off a red led it would no longer be red ?

I did think does the colour make the light a certain colour, is that just for white cobs as I see mixed colour units normally have a clear layer and then you can see the colour of each chip I assumed that layer was just to stop water and dirty and blend the leds together better

I guess it could have something to do with the light production just I`ve seen a few vids of people cutting that layer away and using the cobs

I assumed they did it to get more uv or IR or something

without the phosphor you would have a royal blue led the phosphor give you a broad orange red peak centered at 580-590nm

But I think the Jerry you talking about have did more the growers here then al the kiddies you talking about for there own country.

You want to know why PPL like the CXB3590 ? this is why
12 amnesia haze(cut only) plants, with 9 day of veg and 9.5 weeks Flowering and 8x CXB3590.

because they cost more and arent as bright? thats all i got. Cree are fine chips but if there are better, more cost effective options i want to use and recommend the best

You want to know why most sellers start to hate Cree ? Because Cree don't give big margins they like to give there customers the best shit and not filling those hungry sellers pockets with money. Next time when somebody give you advice about buying something different then a Cree and he says its more effi% and costs less ? Just check If he is a seller ore a grower> nine of the 10 times its going to be sellers that want his pockets full. If they start to bomb you with all fancy diagrams and the special spectrum they produce that is forged by night time under the moon of Lord Siegfried the 3TH. Then you know what time it is My friend smoke a fat one and don't spend a penny !!

I just going to wait and see the grow results of this gen Of Citi if they are indeed what you speaking of Then going to replace ore Cut the power Of the Cree. And go all in for the new Gen7 Citi.
But we really need some results of those new Leds

well i wouldnt go on any one anecdotal grow, dont expect anything to turn a head. i mean unless someone is taking extreme advantage of the cheap chips to build out an uber rig pushing 70% eff and hitting 2 gpw or something - which could also be done with cree albeit at a higher cost.

take your (very impressive) grow for example. without anything beside it, is its nice yield and quality an endorsement of cree? an endorsement of cobs? an endorsement of indoor horticulture in general? you get the idea. another grower with identical rig and strain could have done +/- 10% of your grow... and thats less than the difference were talking about between a cree and a citi at a given wattage.

im taking your grow as an endorsement on the infrastructure of having a good cob infrastructure with good distributedlight. put any chips you want in there in same color temp. cree vero citi getian nichia etc. all are performing +/- 10% of them and we will soon get some weight behind it (no pun intended), but my money is on, in a good growers hands, results are going to be similar.

there are SO many variables. im gonna bet you see less difference between a cree and citi of given color than if you were to compare color temps and cris of given manufacturer... and we dont even understand that all that well yet.
 
Thats 100% treu but In my Case I want to expand and use the same watt ore less for the same results, because I have a limit of what I can draw from the wall, and We pay 0.22$ for one KWH. I heard you guys in the US pay like 0.08-0.12$ that is Insane. Tbh know I typed this I understand why Driving Citizen chips is a pretty good deal when the price of the electricity is just so low.

I sent Jerry a request and after PayPal Fees, higher shipping plus actual cost he was a lot higher than the cobit or Ngl.

Between my two Cree CXB3590s (3500k, CD/Top bin, 36v, 80CRI) run at 2150mA and my Bridgelux Vero29C (3500k, 90CRI) run at 1670mA, surprisingly my Vero29C puts out just a bit more PPFD than my CXB3590s. By about 100. And not that it matters, but the Vero29C is also ~1000 lumens brighter.

Looking at the emitters with the naked eye, the color of the light emitted is very clearly different. The 80CRI/3500k CXBs are still bright, but with a subtly orange-ish hue, whereas the 90CRI/3500k Vero29C has a bright, neutral white, almost slightly blue hue to it and is noticeably brighter. The new Seventh Gen Vero29C is easily a viable option.
