Not full runoff. A drop or two to make sure it's evenly saturated. If I can feel moisture thorough the drainage holes with my finger after a minute or so, and there's a drop or two in the tray I'm happy. That sounds like a living soil. Why are you watering to runoff?
That's what happens after you water it. Pic was taken 3 hours after watering.Medium looks soaked. Watering when the top is dry is part of the issue. Water it when the pot is light.
I use it, and treat it like living soil from solo cup on.Not full runoff. A drop or two to make sure it's evenly saturated. If I can feel moisture thorough the drainage holes with my finger after a minute or so, and there's a drop or two in the tray I'm happy.
It's in that small of a pot I don't expect it to be treated like a living soil. It's just all I had in excess in my supply. Being so small I'll have to feed salts in a few weeks anyway I'd say, so I've gave up treating it like a living soil already lol.
Good to know. I just figured being an 8l pot it wouldnt last long as an organic mix so I gave up before I started lol. Plus there was a fair bit (8-10L) of salt mixed medium in the bin before I brewed the mix, so our of 40L medium, 10L.had salts in it.I use it, and treat it like living soil from solo cup on.
It is an organic mix, no?Good to know. I just figured being an 8l pot it wouldnt last long as an organic mix so I gave up before I started lol.
That is your problem. Water it fully, then wait till its dry, just like your big pot. This one was started in a 100mm pot (600ml) has copped the "only water when it's dry, seedlings only need a splash every few days" method, and it's been trash since day one
That's good to know...I've been told by countless people that 8L of organic mix would be lucky to get me to flower, and I'll end up feeding salts unless I top dress. It is an organic mix, no?
It'll last, you have to feed more frequently as the plant gets bigger. Also keep the microbiology alive and thriving as much as possible.
As you can see, I've never grown organically. I've grown semi organic when I had no idea what I was doing. It is an organic mix, no?

Organic just means your adding organic matter to be broken down by microbes to feed the plant. In a sense the microbes feed the plant. That's good to know...I've been told by countless people that 8L of organic mix would be lucky to get me to flower, and I'll end up feeding salts unless I top dress.
I just figured it would be easier to feed it water for a while and then start feeding canna terra when yellowing starts.
Make the jump to full organic. You won't be disappointed. I do both organic and hydro. I like them both, but I like organic more.As you can see, I've never grown organically. I've grown semi organic when I had no idea what I was doing.
Amended Coco with kelp, alfalfa, Neem, dolomite and on top of that I put slow release salts as I had no idea what I was doing. It worked. Sorta.

I keep half assing organic.
I would definately love to give it a try, I just don't trust my skills yet lol.Make the jump to full organic. You won't be disappointed. I do both organic and hydro. I like them both, but I like organic more.
Ya man I agree. It's just as bad as calling someone the nword.I admit when I was a kid I would throw that name around, but didn't realize. I try not to use those kinds of terms to describe people anymore.
Our coolest bagger at Safeway is a special needs guy. He's probably the friendliest guy there too.
Fair enough.I would definately love to give it a try, I just don't trust my skills yet lol.
It's like a crutch knowing I can just add some salts if I'm having issues.
The trick with l.o.s. is to keep microbes in the soil thriving, eating, and converting organic material into plant food. A good balanced feed like bas craft blend, gaia 444, or dte 444, ewc, kashi, and mulch, will get you thru veg. Then switch to a good flower feed. I use build a flower and build a bloom, but there's others that are cheaper, and just as good, if not better.I would definately love to give it a try, I just don't trust my skills yet lol.

Tbh, I'll just be going back to 2 or 3 gal pots as starters and the issues will go away.Dry doesn’t mean dehydrated it just means not soaked. Keep your soil a bit most and things will work themselves out. I do my seedlings in solo cups with some holes poked in the bottom and put em in trays of water. Refill only when the trays been dry for a day. Almost impossible to fuck up, if you see wilting with this method then its time to transplant as the roots have bound up in the bottom, they’ll bounce back in about a day. Pretty much anything with a couple nodes is gonna be good to move.
Good rule of thumb if using living soil.... use 5% water to soil volume. Feel the weight of the pot and take note. Water in 5%, take note of the weight. When the pot feels as light as it did before you watered, water in another 5%. Repeat. LolTbh, I'll just be going back to 2 or 3 gal pots as starters and the issues will go away.
I'm clearly not cut out for the starter pot method lol...I just can't seem to manage the moisture levels properly.
The problem I had practicing with seedlings, was they were $10 -$15 a seed. I spent a lot of money practicing. LolKeep practicing with seedlings, you'll get the hang of it. Typically, new growers have the most problems at the seedling stage because they are the most vulnerable to overwatering. Give them a wet/dry cycle (but not too dry).
