Who here has had cloning problems?

This thread may be a waste off bandwidth, or it may not... we'll see...

Just curious about cloning problems. I haven't been doing this for long, but it seems that people who clone in soil seem to have a tough time. I have decent conditions at best for my clones, but didn't lose any on my first attempt (soil). In fact, i took a few cuttings that i thought wouldn't stand a chance as clones, which both rooted in a week. I had a light fall down onto my clones and burn 90% off the leaves off one, and even that one survived.

So, if you have had a tough time with cloning, share your experience. Even if you did aero or another method. Also, for those of you who have not had problems, please share your procedure, especially if you use an alternative method like honey, saliva, or straight tap water. I know there is a lot of information scattered about this site on the topic, but perhaps this thread can be a good resource for a one stop shop of cloning information.

With cloning being such a great way to reproduce plants, I'm sure many people could benefit from some solid data, techniques, and procedures that do (or certainly don't) work, especially people who, like me, are new to growing, or at least cloning. If I'm wrong, this thread will die out and we can all move on with our lives!

I can post later how i did mine if anyone wants to know.

Had problems the first time i ever cloned, used rockwool and some no name brand of rooting gel. Roots were small and lanky.
Now Clonex with rapid rooter plugs, humidity dome 100% success and roots are strong. Switched to DWC hydro plants grow 2x as fast.

I use a homemade bubble cloner and just straight well water, changed out every 3 days. I used to add a bit of cloning solution to the water but after a while I found I didn't need it. I get roots to start in about 8 - 9 days in most strains, although a few have been stubborn and have taken up to 14 days.

Agreed this is probably the easiest way, I've left mine in the cloner for weeks at a time without even changing the water. Just topping it off with plain water, adding some hydrogen peroxide, and adding some nutes at a low level, just cause I was lazy and they did just fine. Huge long roots but thats never a problem.

Never have to "feed" them on a daily basis, no dome to open up, no wilting, no fuss and its a 100% success rate every single time.

When I first started to clone with clonex using rockwool, plugs n shit never worked so I put em in peat and a small pot boom I had clones, then I got an electric dome and pre soaked peat pellets with clonex and have 90% success.

I find when you try hard it never worked, well for me lol

I've only cloned using rockwool cubes, but there are a few things that I've learned along the way that have made huge differences.
-Adding a "zyme" product to the cubes' presoak(also make sure it's ph 5.5) has eliminated mold/rot issues and reduced the rooting timeframe
-Cutting just below(almost directly through) nodes as opposed to just above, which seemed more intuitive initially. This also reduced rooting time.
-Reducing the number of leaves on the clone and/or cutting leaf tips off so more of the clone's energy can be spent rooting.

I wanted to try cloning in soil but it seems it does t work as well? Ive never cloned before, and have this plant I dont care for so practiced supercropping on it. All went well, now I want to try and clone with it.

I run a perpetual, i have a 100% success rate with clones.
I cut them, shave the sides a little, put them in a shot glass with some clonex, wait 10 minutes, pop them in a cube, then into a domed tray just on the floor of my veg room, which is always at 75 degrees or above. keep the humidity up in the dome with water on bottom of tray. check each day that there is condensation on inside of dome. that's it. temperature is key.

I have heard success with honey for cloning. Youtube it... I want to try and mix some cinnamon with the honey. I got a folgers can (plastic) and a fogger, works for me with powdered root hormone. Hole saw to cut holes in lid and styrafoam cups cut with foil around them to keep light out. Paint the folgers can too black if u have some paint.

I have only cloned in soil, i have only taken about 8 so far, haven't lost any. Later tonight ill post the basic rules i followed based on knowledge and advice from others. Its easy and often the most convenient. Like started above, its not the easiest method, but i don't want to get/bud a bubble cloner at the moment.

At first i had a bout a 70-80% rooting rate with clones but practice and time has gottem me 100% rooted clones. I use clonex gel, rapid root plugs in a clone dome.

however you decide to clone, they all work as long as you keep stuff clean. I don't even use rooting gels or domes.

once you know your method, it comes down to the strain. some are much more difficult than others. most are pretty easy.

I use a bubble cloner and honey. Built it to start cloning and have never tried anything else. So far I've never had a clone die out of the cloner.

I'm tempted to try soil just to make sure that I can do it. Doesn't seem much different other than humidity control.

I have concentrated more on cloning than growing over the last 10 years it seems. I originally started cloning miniature roses for a large company; all in soil. However when it comes to pot, In my humble opinion, the water cloner is the bestest and the mostest bang for the buck. Sometimes I don't even use hormone. A guy I used to know built this water cloner for me when they were still priced out of my league. But now, like everything else the prices are reasonable and the store bought ones don't leak. LoL
