Which grow light(LED, HPS ect) should I go with?

This is a fun post. It's good to see so many good-hearted members pitching in...

One thing. Make sure the tube fits in your tent and allow room for 90 degree elbows. When you are in a 3x3 things get tight. Also make sure to get a 6" fan so you don't need reducers etc...

I have the can fan-lite filter... It's just ok.. I like the Phresh much better..

2-4 ounces per plant is a little aggressive.. more like 2 ounces per plant if it's decent genetics and all goes well. In a 3x3 and 400-600w you can do 4 plants in 3 gallon pots vegged and trained for 8 weeks and pull 8 ounces without too much effort.

If you go with the 600w light then might as well get the 4x4 tent so you have room to work. And yea, get the 600w and dim it down for veg etc.. 400w lights are kind of a waste. 600 is most efficient.

LEDs are only less heat when theres less wattage and a cheap panel as you suggested are not great, with quality like cobs or quantum boards you can use less wattage than with hps and have the same or a little more light. Which is good obviously.

You have already said that quantums are a bit out of your price range. SO...

I would go with a 3x3 tent and get a 315w chm, they will really produce in a 3x3 and the spectrum is far better than HPS, you get more light per watt and they light up a 3x3 perfect. You will also likely see better resin production. If you shop around you will see there are some very expensive ones but you can get them at a reasonable price too. Mine cost £200

Edit, use the search bar and go take a look at the 315cmh thread. I think @MichiganMedGrower would be a good person to ask about them.
Having difficulty finding a Canadian based lighting system website as to not get hammered on the exchange rate and shipping.

No doubt, thanks to all you folks. No rush, enjoying the intcite and recommendations I've been receiving. Basically just looking for best bang for my buck, all in 800-1000 for litterally everything I need. Side note thinking of thc bomb or NL since they are pretty forgiving and good yields I've read at least.

Right on, good idea on the second hand. Originally I wanted to go LED just because of the less heat, not to concerned with max yield since I'd be happy with 2-4oz a plant. Alot of different outcomes and opinions in regards of LEDs, HPS, Cobs so it's wishy washy for me. I just want a solid light system with easier to manage heat for about 200-400, tent 160ish, inline 150. 30-50w per square foot would suffice I think.
2-4 oz per plant is alot for a first grow I would aim for 1-2 oz per plant unless your just doing 1 or 2 plants an letting them veg over a month. As far as light if your in an attic get quantum boards start with 2 of them that will veg just fine in a 3x3 if it doesn't get to hot with those add 2 more for flower or if you can't afford it just flower with the 2 for the first run. Hps is great for big commercial grows that don't have very much startup cash for the small scale personal grower hps is obsolete.

For 3x3 or 4x4 .... You can get a superior light than that 400 or 600 .
Look into Quantum Boards they provide better light spread , lower heat ( since they are passively cooled ) , NO bulb changes ( grows seed to harvest ) , higher efficiency, available in multi spectrum ( 5000k/3500/3000/4000) , top bin chips ( not those epistar bullshit diodes in Mars panels , No blurple colors .

These are available for shipping to Canada , as new users are posting their grows and builds. Kits are complete and ready to use.
