When to plant in northern hemisphere?

I'm in the northern hemisphere, and grow only Autos in my basement tent, so I don't have any experience outdoor growing. (Or growing in general, I'm only 3mos into the hobby.) I got some freebie seeds that are just feminized Gelato. The way my tent is set up for only Autos, I can't ever use them there. So I thought I'd maybe just throw them in the ground behind the garden shed. Should get plenty of light there, and out of other people's eye shot.

Seeing that I won't be able to "flip" the lights, when is the best time to plant? I don't want the plants to get too huge.

How it go brother. I am also in the northern hemisphere. I have a green house and will be putting outside around middle of June.
